recently, in many countries, if you your MT device has 3G access, your ISP will not give you a public IP, also, some ISPs now even with DSL will not give you a public ip, ISP have 1 public IP natted to many clients.

in such a case, we need a server that MT will communicate with, the server will open the ports on the ISP router so that MT can be seen from the outside..

is there any solution like this around?

I haven't tried it on my own yet, but one possible way I can think of is to establish a vpn like connection, i.e. PPTP to a site that has a public IP and bridge the subnets together. Then on the host with public IP you would set up port forwarding to ports on your PPTP client.

Another method involves using dyndns.org or freedns.afraid.org and some mikrotik scripting.

Both methods have its pros and cons.

I certainly hope your 3G network service provider is not very restrictive with it's filtering (as can be the case sometimes), because you'll most likely be better off to listen to ohara and use PPTP to connect to one main box where your mtik boxes will receive an IP address which you can access easily. If you're using your MT device to provide internet access directly, make sure your 3G connection doesn't get a default route by accident and slurp out your data allowance.

I advise not to use dynamic DNS since it's unreliable, and most likely you won't get a public IP address from your provider anyway.

thanks, yes i can do that,
the problem is, the VPN server will, also, carry the traffic, resulting in slower communication.
i am thinking of something like NAT Traversal, where the SERVER takes care only of opening ports between the 2 peers and does not carry the traffic...
