RB751G-2HnD config file restore nightmare!

Sun Sep 16, 2012 4:38 am

Hi folks

I've got a huge! problem, I made a nice config file and want to restore the config file on other routerboards, ok here is the results:

I made the config file on this device:

RB751G-2HnD
firmware: v2.41
ROS 5.20

---interfaces list---
ether1
ether2
ether3
ether4
ether5
wlan1

and did a backup, and restored the file on a exact same model with the exact same firmware and ros on it, and it gave me this

---interfaces list---
ether1
ether2
ether3
ether4
ether5
wlan2 <---disable and configured

Why does it do that?!

I did a reset on both devices and just enable the wlan1 backup and restored it over to the new routerboard with same model, and it also made a wlan2

thx

Try to use export/import instead of backups.

Hi, this works better, but the problem here is, it clones the MAC address, I don't want everything to have the same MAC address, and the Backup and Restore is supposed to work 100%, I think its a bug! :?

I think backup/restore is intended for using on the same device. Try "/export compact". It won't include MAC addresses (and any other default configuration) to the output.

Hi, This fixed the MAC address issue, but still, its making a empty wlan2 interface :*(

If you post the /export compact file we could tell you what is happening.

For some odd! reason, importing a compact export file onto a new routerboard seems to work 100%, I dont understand why! I might have change a couple of things like identity and small things like that, but it would be great if MK can fix this problem, so that one can be able to backup a file and then restore it onto another device without any hickups, .... mainly for NAS devices like hotspots

Backup and restore is only intended for use on the same device. Import/Export is for different devices. It is not a bug.
