RouterBoard 750up ... I want to use this as a switch?

Sun Sep 16, 2012 6:18 pm

I purchased 2 of the RB750up for a wireless network that I am building. I want to use the 750up as a POE switch and not for routing. Is this possible and if so can someone please explain? Thank you in advance for your help!

It can, but it also depends on what features you want to have it use as a switch. By default ether2-5 are on the same switch group, and when linked together it will work fine as a dumb switch. There are some configuration options that I've never touched, so I'm not sure what else is possible, but you will get wirespeed between the ports that way. You will also want to disable/remove a lot of the configuration like DHCP server, and firewall rules.

If you want a more complex setup you can use a software bridge between the ports and get individual port statistics, but you loose wirespeed since the CPU has to handle all forwarding between ports.
