RB2011UAS-2HnD-IN unresponsive/defect touch-LCD

Wed Sep 12, 2012 10:28 am

I just bought a RB2011UAS-2HND-IN, the touch screen is incredible insensitive. After many tries I may be able to change screen (if I have the luck on my side). I tried “/lcd reset-calibration”, but there are no reaction when I try to press on the first “X”.

Do I have a defective unit or is it a design-flaw?

Does the calibration work at all?

Can anyone confirm that entering "/lcd reset-calibration" and pressing the "X" doesn't do anything at all? Tested with fingers, nails and stylus.

We have improved the calibration process in RouterOS v5.21 (not yet released). If you want to test it, email support@mikrotik.com for early access.

No improvements for the calibration, it doesen't register when I press the "X". Tried finger, nail and stylus. Pressing, holding, swiping, no response what so ever. The touch it self seems littlebit more responsive, could be just me geting used to it...

Mine RB2011UAS-2HnD-IN is the same -touch display is unresponsive and/or defect - only some kinds of triangles appears on it with message Interface down. Shame.

These settings are not correct. LCD touchscreen is configurable under "/lcd" menu. "/system lcd" menu from optional LCD package is used for LCD displays.

Hello,

like espencb, I've just received a RB2011UAS-2HnD-IN. It works very well except for the LCD screen that is unresponsive to touches too.
I've done all upgrades (now I'm in firmware 3.0 and routerOS 5.21, bundled version was rOs 5.20) but the calibration still not work: I'm not able to register the first cross to push due to unresponsive screen.

I hope the next rOs release will fix that or I will deduce the LCD is defective :-/

Make sure you press hard. This is not an iPhone display (capacitive type), this is a resistive display, where pressure registers your selections. Try to press harder, or use a pencil (or some other not-very-sharp object)

I guess it's a resistive display but if I press harder I will break through the enclosure. I've tried with a pda pencil, same result.

I don't know if espencb has resolved the problem with rOs 5.21, maybe we have a lcd serie issue or the resistive display is bulletproof :D .

If you upgraded to v5.21 and did the "reset calibration" command, and it still doesn't work, you must return it to the seller. It could be a defective panel.

LCD Display is unneeded feature. It would be much better to have faster CPU at RB2011. The router is not a toy for childrens !!!

And without voltage monitoring :(
Voltage monitoring is VERY good feature at RouterBoard. We use it to monitor DC UPS voltage.
But who will climb at 100m tower to loo look at RB LCD ?? :)

RB2011 comes in an indoor case, so it's more targeted at the home/office users, who hang it on the wall (it has wall mounts).

OK, but what for is LCD at RouterBOARD 2011UAS? And 600MHz CPU :(
It's rack-mount router, that is at sever's room - we are getting in there one time per month.
Normis, I want to tell You, that MUCH better solution would be to use better CPU and NO LCD!!!
Router ir router. And MikroTik OS is very good system. So we don't want to use it to display movies ;), but - we need better performance, stability and features.

RB2011 CPU is one of the best we have now. Have you tested it? It is the best of all our MIPS products. Why do you need faster?

wow, you're saved my day !! tnx & happy New Year !
im actually purchased my 2011[non-RM wariant with WiFi and LCD] and nearly start feel sorry about not picking RackMount-version instead[despite absence of (rarely used until now)WiFi], because fragile-looking enclosure, [not laugh:]red color in front and LCD in weird state - protective cover scrateched, partially removed["by force"]/twisted and half-screen not touch sensetive.
after reading THIS thread i discover than LCD was left in "Disabled" state and locked to [not used yet]SFP cage. i guess wrong defaults in RouterOS config[i was used 6.0rc5].
after doing two [unsuccessfull]attempts to re-calibrate LCD, i was kinda desperate, but after third time - its WORKING !! :P
and found LCD really helpful !![never before big fan of displays in networking.
also discover scary button with "Reset" title :P

p.s.
wonder how far "Screen race" coul lead networking designers/manufacturers soon. 4'' screen on router, anyone ? 6'' maybe ? ;-)

I like the LCD Normis. Looks great in my living room.

I like it too .. it`s nice and it`s working properly - it looks very good in my room for networking and computing

We need bigger LCD and CPU 1 GHz

After upgrade from 5.22 to 6.rc05 and clean netinstall again 5.22 /rc05 is full of bugs / and reconfig my home router ,I saw that lcd not working properly - but

[admin@MikroTik] > lcd
[admin@MikroTik] /lcd> reset-calibration
Reset calibration, yes? [y/N]:

there is a solution

The LCD is working like a charm again

RB2011 LCD manual: http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:LCD_TouchScreen
I need to know what correct settings are. They are not given here. They are not given in the manual. After installing lcd package I also had settings reset to "set contrast=0 enabled=yes port=serial0 type=24x4"

After I remove the lcd package, LCD settings page says not enabled but ssh shows correct values.

Using 6.0rc5

S4lBWL1QXrPX, did you not read what "becs" wrote? Please use the LCD menu, not SYSTEM->LCD. Those are different menus.

Yes I read. WebFig (6.0rc5) now has no LCD menus after another reboot. I have System -> LEDs and nothing else.
[user@localhost] /system leds> export
# dec/21/2012 09:51:11 by RouterOS 6.0rc5
# software id = ####-####
#
/system leds
set 0 disabled=yes interface=wlan1 leds=lcd type=wireless-signal-strength
[user@localhost] /system leds> remove 0
can not remove preset leds
CLI has lcd and system -> lcd, but lcd settings are not effective. backlight-timeout: 5m, but backlight does not turn off. Backlight obeyed set timeout originally. Installing and removing lcd package broke something. Now what?

why are you again in the wrong menu? there is a clear difference between the words LED and LCD.

please make sure you have upgraded correctly. run command "/system check-install", and "/system package print" and post output here.

THERE IS NO LCD MENU ANY MORE.

Now system is completely broken due to 6.0rc6 upgrade. Thanks.

not tried RC6 yet, but in rc6 it won't work completely okay even after series of calibrations.
for example - inpredictible touch sensetivity feats[regardless accuracy/pressure], ignore settings from LCD portion of settings[from CLI], randomly shuffling slideshow on random interface, ignore "backlight" timer setting.
generally not use LCD much personally, but if could be quite funny to have it operational/okay, for sure )
*update: rolled RC6 and LCD worked "from box" without any tweaking or re-calibration ! GREAT !!*
[all keys, areas worked from single light touch w/o problem] now i need 4.3'' LCD or DP interface for my TV ;) /kidding. btw RouterOS can support DLNA in future for monitoring purposes ? :) ie to stream at least health info[in RO-mode] could be nice to tune you home TV/PVR/smartphone without any serious tweaking and 3rd-party SW and ask/look "how are you, Dude ?" router.
side-effect[probably someone hard work] - also quite cute icons appear in winbox/webfig :-)))
