RB2011UAS-RM Horrible front/label design!!!

Fri Nov 30, 2012 8:06 pm

I just got my first batch of 10 RB2011UAS-RM units...

The front label is the worst/stupidest design I have ever seen. 3 Came with it folded in half, and glued to the box... And ALL of them are coming off slowly when the units sit in the rack.

I put them all in a single rack and powered them up for a night. In the morning the labels are all bubbled up or lose on the edges.

It's not a BIG problem, I just tear them off and leave the front bare, but it leaves large holes on the top for debris to enter the board.

This is a completely stupid design!

Have the labels properly printed on the fronts like RB-1100 etc. Don't use the label as a vent cover either!!!

CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP!!!

This is not a perfect example, but it shows the problem.

The top one was damaged in the box (It was folded in half and does not stay straight. We have others that arrived the same way)

The others, if you just rub your finger on the edge the label pulls off.
Most of them you can see the label is actually bubbled up and barely holding.

I took this the other day, now I have two others (Not the ones from the movie) that have the labels hanging half way off them.

I don't care if this is cheap, it doesn't bother me for the label, what bothers me is the fact that it is used to block the air-flow at the top.

Rackmount is supposed to be quality stuff. People who specify rackmount don't mind spending the extra for quality presentation.

We have already changed the glue on the stickers, this issue should not repeat in the future.

P.S.: "Rackmount" is a method of attaching the device somewhere. There all kinds of rackmount devices. Some cost tens of thousands, this costs $99. In our product range, we have different classes of devices. There are ones with better materials too, they cost more.

but its perform quite nice, btw. especially for price.
thickness/grade of metall of course wasn't prefect, but it as you stated, inexpensive[and affordable by many, aside you]and provide good airflow.
UAS-2NhD-In i purchased, instead of UAS-RM, initially, because WiFi presence[marginally, but need:[] was shocked me even more -)
red-colored front panel. funny, but werid :=)
point is, presently MT probably can't adress ALL kind of customers by One product[as others can't too].
my guess is, for more demanding customers, are CCR made =)
but gap between CCR and 2011[and 1100] quite noticeable.
"Rackmount" not specify anything rather than type of MOUNT.
if others vendors didn't provide INEXPENSIVE Rack-Mount - devices, thats not MikRotik fault. but MikroTik profit, for sure ;-)

Don't get me wrong, the product is great!

It's just the physical design is a little problematic.

As I said, my biggest problem isn't the label falling off... I don't need or care about the label.

What I don't like is the label being used to block the large vent holes. There must be a way to shape the metal (cheaply or at the same price) to do that by itself without needing the label to cover the holes.

seems MikroTik was focused on Boards and Stations more presently more than cases for them as well as devoted fr RouterOS, powering them over Atheros chips.
point is: you always can find/order something looking more solid/presentable/serious to encase you lovely cute RB board anew ;)
presently i not found big variety of cases for 2011[both RM and destop], except plastic-made, but product is quite new and i just like before for others, MT partners surely will make/ship some ;)
surely inferfering with ventialtion/airflow/cooling - was more concerning than appearance, and guess/hope that MT crew/staff will fix it soon in new batches of products.
