USB issues on 2011UAS-2HnD

Mon Dec 17, 2012 1:09 am

Hi,
I have a small problem with my 2011UAS-2HnD and USB 3G Modems.
The USB port and device is not visible anywhere, although the USB modem receives power and is "blinking as normal".
I've also tried connecting an USB thumb drive, with the same result.

The modem works great on my old RB751G-2HnD, so i know the modem is working as it should.

Below is some info that might be relevant.

Hello ulven,

can it perhaps be, that the USB port is not powered at the RB2011 series?

It is powered, but as the RB2011 has a microUSB connector, you must use an OTG cable to use it. Some cables are not OTG, so must check if yours is.

I've tried three different cables, including the original OTG cable for my Samsung Galaxy S2.
All with the same issue.

So, no one has any ideas?
How about some suggestions on how I can troubleshoot the hardware to determine if there is something wrong with the USB port?

We have found a potential issue on this device, it will be addressed in a software update. The issue causes some specific devices not to be recognised.

Hello ulven,

did you try out the following?
Please connect the USB modem to the USB port and then reboot
the RouterBoard and watch out once more again if you can see the modem now.

Not to be rude but;
Yes, (of course) I tried that, and it still does not work, but thanks for the suggestion anyway.

I've also updated the software to v6.0rc6 since last time, but still no luck.

another suggestion is to connect the USB device, remove the power for the board and power the board up again - most of the times it helps.

Finally i got it working.
It was uldis's solution that finally did the trick, although I've tried it before without success.

And another apology to Dobby for being a bit rude.
I was just in a bad mood, and should probably have waited a bit before posting.

Thanks to everyone for their replies.

I was having the exact same issue with my RB2011UAS-RM, and Uldis trick worked for me as well. I look forward to this little bug being squashed real soon.

on 5.21 I could see my modem in list of USB devices.

upgrade to 5.22, and restart as per suggestion, and I get a ppp interface showing.

However, i cannot do scans etc or connect, I always get "couldn't aquire port"

the same modem works on a 751.

Any suggestions

Regards

Well, I'm not having much success actually.

The 3G seems to lose its signal and disconnect, and also seems to drop most pings, but this same stick has no problem in the same office with a 751.

Could it be a power issue on the RB2011

I was thinking at first also, but the USB port is really powered and you only need a OTG cable thats it.
