v6 rc6 released

Fri Dec 21, 2012 2:49 pm

We did everything we could to stop the world from ending. Shipped the CCRs, released RC6, sent you all a newsletter. Looks like it worked :)
What's new in 6.0rc6 (2012-Dec-21 12:20):

*) fixed problem - netinstall for x86 did not work;
*) lcd - added take-screenshot command;
*) lcd - fixed calibration, fresh boards no longer require recalibration;
*) optimize memory usage - makes 32Mb routerboards more stable;
*) support BandRich modems with newer firmware;
*) ipsec - authentication using certificate store but without CRL checking for now;
*) added feature - flash can be partitioned on routerboards and
separate versions can be installed on each of them (requires latest firmware);
*) fixed problem - after restoring backup, it gets restored again on every reboot;
*) improved router performance when dhcp client/server present in system;
*) fixed vlan on bond after reboot;
*) fixed occasional queue kernel crash;

what is a bandrich modem?

By the way, I was hopping you would have done something about the end of the world. After all MikroTik rooting the world (or is it routing?)

I recommend you to try the new Partition feature, if your router has enough NAND space.

One thing that I liked before ROSv5.0 was the possibility to close a window within winbox by double clicking on the upper left corner of the window. Do you think it can be reintroduced, since it is still rc release?

Guys, a couple of releases ago access point mode was slow and dodgy.. It seems that with the latest releases all works fine.

Attached a screenie of the throughput on a RB493G with 2 pigtail antenna's connected to a r52hn card. Client is a Dell laptop with an Intel wifi link 5100 copying some files across SMB..

Very nice now.. Peaks at 23'ish MB/s via Wireless.

THANKS. Keep up the good work.

My CCR1036-12G-4S is getting constant Rx Drops on Bridge, VLAN and some physical interfaces. This happens with both, ROS6.0rc5 and ROS6.0rc6 versions. Now, when I upgraded my RB433AH with ROS6.0rc6, it started to the same thing - show Rx Drops on one of the interfaces (incoming Internet). I never had anything like that with this specific RB433AH. Could it be dropping certain frames? Does anyone else see the same behavior with new version?

Do you have something that actually doesn't work or is it another "counter panic"? AFAIK it is new Linux Kernel feature it is now indicating packets that he don't know what to do with them - in short it is normal. only thing i manage to see is that i see lots of them on interface that have client PCs on them.

Re: v6 rc6 released

I would like to post some testing I did with partitioning on a RB750
1. Updated RB750 from ROS 5.16 to ROS 6.0rc6. After that upgraded firmware also.
2. Partitioned the HDD in two partitions. Procedure was normal. After reboot the Partition menu showed
two partitions of the same size, 32MB.
3. Tried "Copy to", with success.
4. Tried "Active Partition". Active option gives the possibility to boot to the partition you mark as active after reboot.
5. I wanted to try to revert to one partition, but there was not such an option, or at least if I chose 1 partition, it will not
partition the HDD because it needs at least two.
6. Tried downgrade to 5.22 with /system package downgrade, hmm no success at all, although I figured it would not go smoothly
since the HDD had two partitions. The good thing was that the router rebooted to the "next" partition as the first one failed. So I just
copied the second partition to the first one, and router was back to normal. This is how it is designed to work.
7. So tried netinstall, since netinstall does format and partitioning of HDD, i thought this was the way to revert back to one partition.
It was a pain ...... Netinstall at first with ROS 5.22, install was successful according to netinstall, but after reboot no way to access
the router. Tried netinstall with ROS 6.0rc6, netinstall failed to transfer system package. After some tries, I saw that netinstall with
ROS 5.22, was successful, but the router was inaccessible after reboot. So I did a hard reset, and after that managed to get access
to the router.

Overall, I think the new partition option is great, as I tested it, it worked as expected. Although the downgrade was very hard, I guess
no one would want to go back to older versions. One thing I would like though, is the possibility to revert back to one partition, after
one creates two (or more) of them

Hello and help

- Updated RB450G from ROS 5.22 to ROS 6.0rc6. After that upgraded firmware also.
- Partitioned the HDD in two partitions. Reboot needed to complete...
- After reboot just a "beep" and nothing more... No connection.
- I tried "hardware reset" and nothing.

Something else to be done?

I'm very impressed with CCR1036-12G-4S. MikroTik is on right path with this one. I'm using it as inter VLAN router (+ firewall, traffic shaper, e.t.c.) for office computer network with gigabit Cisco switches. My only complain is Rx Drops that I mentioned before. I want to know what's being dropped instead of trying to guess if it's some frame error or not.

If Cisco switch likes new MikroTik device, then I like it too.

your device has a serial port, connect and see what it says. if there is some problem, RouterBOOT also has partitioning options, you can revert to your original setup there.

IGMP proxy is still broken. When can we expect a functional IGMP proxy? Today's ISP services are based on a Triple play, but mikrotik still no functional IPTV support. We need igmp proxy or udpxy. Thanks...

I have been seeing these "Rx Drops" also since running v6.0 either rc4, rc5 or now rc6. It's mainly on the port that is connected to a netgear gigabit switch on which most of my other clients are connected.

Weirdly enough, I also see it on a VirtualAP port from the RB2011 2.4Ghz wireless itself! Third interface I see it is on an VLAN Bridge.

Same deal on an OmniTik I am running. Rx Drops on the bridge which connects a Virtual AP to a VLAN on the First ether interface which is directly connected to the RB2011. The same port on the RB2011 does not have any Tx Drops or other errors.

Weird thing is, I notice no problems whatsoever. On v5.11 or v5.12 there where no problems with the same config.

Re: v6 rc6 released

Also my "defalut" config, pointing towards this device (just changed ID from 55 to 56 on the v6 rc6)

It seems like it have something to do when router is configurated. If i take a /system reset and just give it a ip, all is ok.

v6 rc6 released

Are you guys going to enabled comments on partitions? Something else that would be nice to see is the build time in the version on partitions.

Be careful to test the partitioning. My RB450G no returned after that is done.

I haven't had the opportunity to test...
I'll buy another Rb to see (after final release).

where do you see those drops?
In Ether2 (used for outgoing network to the clients via cisco sf300 24p switch)
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

@Markut, try a hardware reset, or netinstall. I have tested myself and it works. Also, if you manage to access the router
after hardware reset, choose "force backup booter" from /system routerboard settings menu. That's what I did on my RB750
which I used for testing, and is working fine.

I don't have access to RouterBOOT setup and now nothing appears when I connect the serial cable. (died)

Not possible that nothing appears. Either device is not plugged in, or you have wrong terminal settings

Terminal configuration and cable used are the same when it appeared the data before (post 348057)... but not entered on RouterBOOT setup when I press any key, plus the boot continues...

Merry Christmas normis and all.

To turn on the rb "she" does everything normally (until lock).
- The blue and green LEDs light up and the leds of the ports blink
- You will hear a sound reading.
- The green LED goes off and you hear a beep.
- At the end only the blue LED lights (ON).

I'll see if I can find an expert to revive it. Throw away $200 no good.

6.0rc6 RouterOS error

Mon Dec 24, 2012 6:55 pm

RB433UAH 24V 2A

2x error RouterOS all services inaccessible (NAT,Metarouter, telnet,ssh,web,proxy,winbox..) > power off-on > OK

update:
error3 proxy,DHCP,tools profile, > winbox reboot > routerboard frozen > power off-on > RouterOS OK

all statistics RouterOS are deleted

still the same problem as 6.0rc5

I use a proxy to block ads

update
error4 proxy + tools/profile KO > reboot power off-on OK

No news about the BGP route cache bug fix ?

We buy a RB1100AHx2 expecting to route 160.000 pps, and 700 Mbits based on web info.
Later I receive a response from support saying in our case will route only 80.000 pps with luck.

I am waiting a CCR1036 to replace the RB1100AHx2, but start to have some bgp issues, when search the forum, find that ROS has a bug with BGP for nearly a year without resolution.

Sadly thinking in drop my CCR order, and get back to my linux box if can't get Mikrotik do the job.

Any advice on this ?

No news about the BGP route cache bug fix ?

Sadly thinking in drop my CCR order, and get back to my linux box if can't get Mikrotik do the job.

Any advice on this ?
It is issues like this that show the true cost of running Mikrotik routers.

This issue has existed in all 5.x releases and is in core functionality. No timeframe to resolution has ever been provided.

This bug is costing us profit as we cannot launch a number of services due to unpredictable routing behavior.

Evey day that this bug exists it is making the Juniper MX5 at 15x the price of a CCR seem cheap.

Im sorry if this seems harsh, Mikrotik are fantastic in many other ways, this bug has just been around for far too long.

Don't put big hope on MT routing package.

When you had many peers and must advertised to many routes, we're always had many stability problem like :
- prefix is not announced to our peers
- /ip route cache fillup. It cannot route, even ping inside the router got timeout. The one and only solution is restart the affected router.

After that much of problem we go to other option event it put huge dents on our budget.
We're buy and deploy 6 juniper mx80 in our networks.

Unfortunately juniper mx5 still very pricey, if not all of our distribution routers would go to juniper routes to.

Shame on MT, they got killer hardware on CCR, but their routing software especially bgp realibility is not for carrier grade as now.

FOR MT : Don't develop to many product, focus on improving your software reliability first and feature second.

Hello.

I received my 36core CCR today.
I just unpack and try to connect using winbox with direct connect from my laptop.

there are two issues
1.it can't connect with mac-address. only can connect with ip address after ethernet setting to 192.168.88.x
is it bug or just changed?
I also tried upgrade to RC6 then still same.
when i reset configuration and remove default-configuration, i can't connect again untill hardware reset.

2. i use to using " finisar FTRJ8519P1BNL" 850nm MM SFP module for my RB2011UAS-RM to connect to L2 switch, it was work fine till today. so i try to put same SFP to my CCR but can't connect well.
it indicate linked with orenge led. also indicate UP at interface in winbox.
but can't recive ip from DHCP also not linked at L2 switch side sfp port.
i tried change to another SFP module from infinion and picolight too. same result.

any opinion?

1) mac-winbox issue in 99% of situation is related to PC
2) did you tried auto-negotiation=on or off, do you get any DDM information in CCR?

Please download the latest version of winbox.exe to be sure that you will having an access via mac address.

With the SFP module problem, perhaps the best to write this to support@mikrotik.com to find out a solution.

I recommend you to try the new Partition feature, if your router has enough NAND space.
Good feature... But what about hdd (or ssd) on PC ?

I can confirm some problems with mac-address connection on both CCR-s. I just had mines today, and started testing. But the problem seems to be related to Windows7 rather than routerboard itself. I have three PC-s here, two with Windows 7 and one with Windows XP. It gives me this problem only on one of the Windows 7 machines, the two others can connect via mac-address with no problem.
Oddly enough, the CPU speed is on 200MHz. When I go to /system routerboard settings in winbox, it shows CPU at 200MHz, but in blue, as if the value is not set yet. While in terminal, in the same menu, it will show as unknown. While in /system resources it shows the CPU at 1200MHz.

that is a small bugs in the routerboard settings page for CCR. That field at the first start is unknown and when you open Winbox menu it provides you the first option that is has and colors that field in blue. First value is 200mhz that is why you are seeing it. Set it back to 1200mhz and it should be ok.

Yes, it was okay after setting it at 1200MHz. Just wondering why the strange value.
Can you replicate the issue with mac-address connection via winbox, and maybe find out what is going on?

hi

my rb750g uses much more memory with ros v6.0rc6 as with ros 5.22
in attachment some monitoring graph from munin

comment from changelog
*) optimize memory usage - makes 32Mb routerboards more stable;

is this normal?

I HOPE I can FINALLY use this now!!! First all the queue problems, then lastly the interface names got re-named, which was a HUGE bug that needed fixed. I assume something that important wouldn't get missed. RC6, hopefully I can finally use this for my basic needs!!!

Testing now, will post the results...

Well so far so good!!! Can't wait to see if the simple queues control traffic any better now!!

Problem we've been having: Give customer 7Mb burst, customer does speedtest and see's only 5.5mb. Disable queue= 20mb. Speed is there, simple queue doesn't control speed properly. Bumping burst speed to 10mb and they can about get 7

Nope. Simple Queue bandwidth control is still not right. At home, capped myself at 14Mb burst with 4Mb sustained. Speedtest are around 9mb. This is really getting old. Yet, if I disable my queue, I get 24Mb. So the speed is there, its just that Mikrotik cannot control it properly.

And its not just a bursting problem, I just set it to 14Mb sustained, and 8Mb up. Speedtest is 9.5Mb / 6Mb.

If I leave the queue disabled, and cap my speed on the UBNT radio, I get a solid 14Mb / 8Mb, right what I cap it at. There's only 70 simple queues on this Mikrotik, and running v6.0rc6 made absolutely no improvement. I thought V6 was suppose to have better queue performance???

having problem with connecting PPPoe users , some users can not connect over PPPoe .

we have run small test by changing the service name in the client PC to be as same as the service name in PPP server , the client can connect easily , but by default most clients can not connect .

tested with X86 and RB450

strongly agree, i struggle with the same problem.
the only solution is to test limit setting with some offset to get desirable real speed.
but I feel that mismatch of set and real speed is not the only problem here.
imho these queues just slows down even on x86 . im avoiding using it since... im remember i discovered the problem back in v4?

Same here. We have to deploy a juniper MX5 to be our edge/core router. After 8 months with it, I don't remember any routing bug or issue. I'm really looking forward to RouterOS routing package improvements to buy the ccrs to be access and distribution routers, even to be in HA vrrp setup with the juniper router.

Perhaps it will help you for the future comparing devices in the same price range, not to find routing problems.

CCR-1036-12G-4S at $1000 + 16 GB RAM perhaps at $1300 and the Juniper MX5 is starting at $29,500!
This is like comparing an new VW Beetle with an new Mercedes 600, in my eyes a totally other range of car class.

And at least for sure problems can reach you at every device class and with every routing system.

Do you like to be compared to the German Telekom, and peoples tell then in a forum you have not the right knowledge
to handle it or configure it out!?

I did a speed test today with simple queue i used traffic generator to send 20mb/s and set my que to max limit 10mb/s

the result was i got 12mb/s on the interface, but yet the que stats show 10mb/s ?

also i am having ZERO null nothing luck getting simple queues to detect traffic generator, yet the que tree works.

6.rc6 and mikrotik staff, my router just crashed again due to traffic generator

My point with that statment is first: I really "Love" Mikrotik RouterOS products and OS. Second: I´m was not trying to compare hardware, but software. For instance, Quagga / Bird / Vyatta and OpenBGPD that are "free" doesn´t have the routing bugs that a good amount of people that runs BGP with full tables is facing for about a year. In our case, we´re getting a lot of support calls about websites and destionation unreachability caused by this issue.

Anyway, I and some of us would really like a lot and would put a lot of more money if this very bug gets sorted out. Not only for the price but in my case that is using and supporting routerOS for about 8 years and still uses a lot of Routerboard and X86 deployments. But we couldn´t handle anymore this bug on our Edge/Core network.
But RouterOS is running pretty well on our distribution / access network with a lower amount of IBGP routes.

Hello gustkiller,

I absolutely trust your words and for sure if BGP is one of your core or edge company pillars the BGP cache issue is
really important for you, perhaps so much that you are beginning to buy network equipment from other vendors
this is not the point I was wondering, but please be fair and also trust my words comparing a device fro nearly
$30.000 to an brand new device with a installed ROS release candidate on it, would not make it better in my eyes.

For sure I was seeing some other posts about this issue or similar the same also by some peoples here in the forum, well I am not blind at all, but I don´t shoot with cannons on small birds on the other side.
But I am also surprised about the point, that someone tells here one times the truth and call the child by his real
name, only spending some coin I am not able to realize things that most be paid with several thousands of dollars, but
if MikroTik brings out a router like the CCR series some peoples were discussing the price half a year before the unit
will be launched and all are crying for cheap hardware and more cheap spare parts, but if this is not running likes
they were thinking, thousands of dollars are there to be able to pay for new hardware, because MikroTik is not able to handle it!
In our case, we´re getting a lot of support calls about websites and destionation unreachability caused by this issue.
Of course all peoples who are acting seriously have to move their ass if customers are crying loud, I am sure all
companies have to do so before their clients are leaving. But why at first all should or must be cheap and then at one time the money is there? I cant expect it really and by the way if a MikroTik device is reaching the $10.000 border
I am really sure we have not to talk about license fee any more and they can hire a lot of programmers to solve all things out, immediately.
For instance, Quagga / Bird / Vyatta and OpenBGPD
If you have to or beginning to sort your clients based on these operating systems, and you have many of them to sort
we should not talk about the hardware cost of those systems.
Mainboard ~600 €
2 x Xeon E5-2690 ~4000 €
8 x 16 GB ECC/REG RAM modules ~2200 €
4 x 4 GB LAN port Intel PT server Adapters ~1200 €
2 x HotLava 4 port SFP server Adapter ~1200 €
And with two HDDs, a server case and redundant power supply unit you will nearly reaching the 10.000 € mark!
And what are with all the other features, options and functions MikroTik ROS is delivering you?

But I consider really your standpoint or point of view, you have to handle it out with your customers.
Perhaps if the ccr series and the ROSv6 is stable they go bug, false and issue hunting, to fix out those things
really, but during the time it is very hard I thing, new RB2011 and ccr series and new ROS v6, it seems not that they have not really hard to work at this time.

Hi Mikrotik-Team,

i don't understand why you don't want to fix this problem.
GUI of User Manager shows wrong informations about session. In all v6rc it is not fixed yet. See the screenshot.
It's very strange, that this problem has existed since v4

this is not the point I was wondering, but please be fair and also trust my words comparing a device fro nearly

Dear Dobby,

We're old mikrotik user, even use them from 2.7.x series.

But as our network and business grow, our needs is multiplied.
Network bandwidth now measured in hundred of megabits, now even gigabits.
Many of tier-1 / tier-2 upstream provider offer 10Gs port even 100G ports with very cheap bandwidth.
Even 1 or 0.5 usd / mbps.

We're love to deploy many mt in our networks, buts as bandwidth grows, even so the number prefix in internet.
First in mid 2000s, its around 199k prefix, nowdays is more than 400k prefix.

Our experience in deploying mt is not the hardware, if its about hardware, we could put multicore xeon with tons of memory,
and multiple intel 82599s nic and 82576nics.

Our problem is in the software, especially in their dynamic routing protocol (BGP especially and ospf second).
They cannot handle if the router in question had many ibgp and ebgp peers, they had problem as :
- Sometimes it randomly doesn't announce some of our prefix to other peers
- Sometimes some prefix it got from other peers get stuck
- Sometimes the ip route cache get full
- inflexibility in handling ip conntrack size / number (sometimes packet get dropped when the conntrack table gets full), in
linux we could raise the conntrack table
- inflexibility in handling memory size (for more bgp session) But this seems marketing decission to make their customer go
for CCR series i think.

Especially if one or more of the peers is full route.

We doesn't make comparison of mt hardware cost, in this question we ask :
- MT put out high end router (flagship for MT) CCR series with multi gigabits port and cpu power for forwarding the packet
- the routing software in question for BGP

Which customer would put CCR-1036-12S and make them as switch or only put static routing in it ?
Not many i think, if you need switch just put and Cisco or Extreme switch.

And if you routing, you will need the flexbility and redundancy offered by bgp routing.

Our question dobby :
- How much your traffic and your prefix you had ?

If you had 500's or more /24 on your network, and hand multiple ebgp peer (transit provider) and downstream customer (other isp or big corporation),
also multiple ibgp peer down to your distribution networks you will get the problem i describe.

This not counting what happen when MT box get DDOS'ed.
Even when the traffic not full, the bgp session would get dropped.

We would love to pay more for more stable version of MT for carrier grade routing, because it would
more and more cheaper than put out 20k+ for mx80 (juniper entry model for MX series)

Thx

Hello Wavelan,
We're old mikrotik user, even use them from 2.7.x series.
Personally for my self, only me, it doesn´t matter if you are using MikroTik RouterOS and RouterBoards since last
Sunday or since the first day. Once more again, it really doesn´t matter if you a home user with RB411 or the Germany
Telecom for me. This is a user to user forum.
Many of tier-1 / tier-2 upstream provider offer 10Gs port even 100G ports with very cheap bandwidth.
For sure but then it will be better to wait until MikroTik is perhaps assemble and bringing out the Tilera 100 Core version,
should this be better going for 10 GBit/s support? Do you consider? Or what do you really think, that the CCR series should be only based on the 16 and/or 36 core series? I my meaning it should more going to Tilera 9 Core as wireless controller and Tilera 100 Core for 10 GBit/s, and not hugging up this load on the actual CCR series.
Our problem is in the software, especially in their dynamic routing protocol (BGP especially and ospf second).
I am not on this need, once more again I am not on the need! And now please read this statement from the
December, 26. in the year 2012 from me:
http://forum.mikrotik.com/viewtopic.php ... nt#p348381
Which customer would put CCR-1036-12S and make them as switch or only put static routing in it ?
Not many i think, if you need switch just put and Cisco or Extreme switch.
Perhaps you should read some posts again, I was never talking about to use a CCR as a cheap Switch!!!!
If I need a Switch I have to follow the company based rules of my company and not what you are suggesting me.
The only user I am informed right about that was talking about, using the CCR as a Switch is some one who is named
hl1ill and if I am was talking about this was a side note to this thread or post:
http://forum.mikrotik.com/viewtopic.php ... SP#p348636
And if you routing, you will need the flexbility and redundancy offered by bgp routing.
Perhaps I should be able to decide my needs by my self?
- How much your traffic
I am working in a transportation company (spedition), with one main office as the headquarter and 15 branch offices.
600 peoples in the main office and ~250 around employees in each branch office.
Most works places are sorted with a computer or in the ground hall with a wireless based scanner.
We are transport something around ~500t each day through the whole Europe and all goods will be controlled
before uploading and after unloading and also during the transport phases the goods must be tracked with gps.
But what in hell this has to do with our forum thread here? :(
We would love to pay more for more stable version of MT for carrier grade routing,
Pure easy and short, like all others, but crying for something and then be willing or able to buy this
makes in my eyes the differences!!! For sure likes you were telling around here you will do so, because
you are on the need!

And what now is so different from my meaning to do the following:
Launch RB2011 series and make it stable running
Launch the CCR series and make it stable running
launch RouterOS v6 and make it stable running
From then till early 2013 April no new functions and features but stating bug hunting survey and bug hunting, bug hunting,......

As I was telling some two post above:
Perhaps if the ccr series and the ROSv6 is stable they go bug, false and issue hunting, to fix out those things

I have read your post many times but more related to my bad English language skills, that I have strange efforts and
that I am perhaps a so called realist, is not making live easier for sure, but I am crying not for setting up 10 GBit/s
in the 16 or 36 Core Tilera based equipment, that is actual in the market.

But if this routers are growing up much at the sales rate it would be a
good to hear from MikroTik that they are perhaps bringing out the next CCR device based on the Tilera 100 core CPU
will not bringing you a stable and bug free ROS as you are reporting by you self!

For sure so I was thinking only on stopping implementation of new features, for having more stability and time to solve out the bugs related to too many different system types are in this game now.

And last but not least I prefer to be willing to give MikroTik even also the time to set up and fix it or solve it out
and not crying for more, more, more... This was the main instance for having not 10 GBit/s at the actual devices.

P.S.
Not that we miss understood us all, I have also wishes for having new ROS functions, but the to find out the right order is the clue I really think.
After the ROS is being bug and issue free it should be perhaps a good idea to have to insert
the CARP with arpbalance that all customers are able to stitch only a new router in the rack if the load and
the number if customers are gaining up. So even a new router must be inserted to the rack and over a sync cable it
should be balancing out the whole load in the game, for sure over a virtual mac address.
Or for what you mean the blue marked port at the EdgeMax Carrier is done?

And then after all this, false free and sorted with balance able capabilities you will be happy with 10 GBit/s
and not before, only in my poor opinion, but this is also pending on the willing and availability of time we all are giving MikroTik.

Cheers and a healthy move over to the year 2013 to all.

Guys, cool down before it gets personal :)

I understand both opinions, and mine is somewhere in between.
Very important is the existence of the CCR, which shows MikroTik's wish to enter the market they were not before.
At fist, please consider me a true MikroTik lover. I can close my eyes on many small bugs, bad functionality on not so important features etc. But, I think that the CCR's main purpose should be CORE router. I simply can't imagine any such router with serious bugs in BGP, for example! It is not about the price. CCR should cost at least $3000 and i bet MikroTik will still sold the same amount of devices. We bought 2 for $1500 .... It is simply too cheap for a serious device.
Everybody was talking about this and that number of gigabits, trillions of PPS on CCR.... so it is obvious that MikroTik was targeting core router functionality. I would rather pay $3000 for a device that does what it should, which is again, many times cheaper than equivalent Juniper or Cisco. MikroTik, make more expensive devices, but invest into better development and bug fixing. Don't introduce ANY new features at all, fix rock stable what you offer now.

I completely agree jager.

We too ignore the small stuff. Its the big stuff like the BGP/routing issues we cannot.

I suspect the routing fixes are already well under way. Hopefully we see them soon.

It makes me sad that there are so many issues in RouterOS. We decided to get a CCR to replace our main Cisco router. At the moment, there is no way we can put the CCR in to production. We have random crashes and I have no idea why.

IMO, you can't launch in to this market with a product that doesn't work. I will admit I went for the CCR as it is far cheaper than Juniper, which is what I was going to go for. However, I will be budgeting for one now.

I think your right that for a beta it's just too buggy to release to public for test. But I'm confident that the CCR will be great on 6.10 or so.

You're crazy. Everyone bugs MT to release it even with a beta ROS-Release.
Now they did and a lot of people wines it does not work for them.

Your sentiment is correct, but I will point out that this is not a beta. It is a release candidate. That means (or should mean) that potentially the 6.0rc6 code could be released as 6.0 unchanged if they don't find any further show-stoppers in it.

"rc" != "beta"

Happy new year to all,
Everyone bugs MT to release it even with a beta ROS-Release.
I think world wide many peoples were doing so, to get the hands on this device.
And most of them really know that this is a new device and a new version of ROS that can be "buggy" or unstable. New functions are not even working good and smooth until the first day.
*** DONT USE BETA SOFTWARE AND EXPECT IT TO BE FUNCTIONAL ***
*** DONT USE BETA SOFTWARE AT YOUR CORE ROUTERS IF YOU WANT TO STAY ONLINE ***
This is in normal cases and for usual new ROS versions or new devices even the best practice not to run into a trap, but with the CCR series some other things comes on top of this "rule" in my eyes.
- on a brand new device type
- a new RouterOS version number
- the first public 64Bit RouterOS version
- with some new functions and options and/or bug fixes
- that is based on a new system type or architecture type
Your sentiment is correct, but I will point out that this is not a beta. It is a release candidate.
For sure peoples should or could thinking so, as you have described it, but on the other side this is also not showing
up the whole or real situation right now, as I was writing some lines above.
And I am pretty sure that MikroTik has not inserted the whole function set up, that is able to given and also supported
by this new hardware type (Tilera), as an example perhaps something likes;
- hardware based and supported VPN encryption by the new high speed encryption engines called MiCA (IPSec)
- clever prioritizing QoS rule sets to handle better audio, video or voice based VLANs
- Hardware based and/or supported deep packet inspection
- Hardware based and/or supported IDS/IPS functions

So I think they were showing up something about the new ROS v6 and the CCR series at one or two MUMs that the forum is not swapping over and the customers are not running wild. And pending on the rich featured function sets,
capable to handle and support by this new hardware architecture type, it´ll be not the end for this series but inserting
this functions step by step is perhaps a wise decision to narrow down the number of failings and issues.

Which queue type are you using? Default, Default-small, wireless-default?

The software is a "release candidate", as indicated in the name. Except for some really peculiar configurations, it works rock solid for 99% of users. Second - we don't have any production level hardware shipping with this version. Only "pre-production" units of CCR.

Hello infused,
Ok, so all those are saying this is an Alpha, Mikrotik then are releasing products to the market place with Alpha code?
Owed on the wide number of options and functions RouterOS is sorted with and pending on the rich feature sets it comes with, it´ll be perhaps published and launched in early 2014, if MikroTik must test all things and each function in different ways they are able to be used. But on the other way, in each new version, subversion, level or patch level are some or more bugs and known issues are coming fixed and figured out and makes many users to be able to use this in their set up.

So each from us for his self, should be able to think about, if they should use it in real life and production environments or not! And many customers are owning extra one or more devices for doing testing out those actions, like updates inside one version or upgrades from one version to another one! And then they can are able to have a closer look and over view is this is able to use by their set ups and instalments or not! And based on their reports and feedbacks MikroTik is able to act really fast to fix and correct some things, faster as they were abel to do if they have to test all this alone in the test lab.

But in normal conditions I prefer exactly what "ste" was writing:

*** DONT USE BETA SOFTWARE AND EXPECT IT TO BE FUNCTIONAL ***
*** DONT USE BETA SOFTWARE AT YOUR CORE ROUTERS IF YOU WANT TO STAY ONLINE ***

I found some forum threads here where peoples were reporting, that they were updating many RouterBoards at one time and after doing this nothing was going fine for their whole network environment! So better to have a test RouterBoard
not to running in those traps or plain waiting till a RouterOS version is marked as stable.

hi

my rb750g uses much more memory with ros v6.0rc6 as with ros 5.22
in attachment some monitoring graph from munin

comment from changelog
*) optimize memory usage - makes 32Mb routerboards more stable;

is this normal?

kind regards
In rc6 we have corrected some issues in how memory is measured, previously it was showing optimistic memory usage. The memory is used exactly the same as before, just the shown number is more accurate.

Everyone with any kinds of packet drops:

in rc6 the dropping of invalid packets takes place earlier in the packet flow, so now it gets reported more accurately. The same packets got also dropped in rc5 and previous versions, but we did not show them in the counter. So basically counter is more accurate. No valid packets are dropped. Your traffic works fine.

Normis,

It looks like we are unfortunately inside that unlikely 1% of users that don't have rock solid operation of the CCR.
No special configuration, ~500 simple queues, 2 full BGP routes and traffic ~50Mbit.

However, the CCR was unfortunately so unstable that I had to revert back to the PowerRouter 2200 which IS actually rock stable with the same configuration. The only, and significant difference is that the PR2200 is running v5.21, and currently I'm not even thinking about installing any other version. We have a lot of customers depending on it that simply I can't play and test.

I decided to order 2 CCR's as I was very happy MikroTik is entering such a different market than before. The main purpose of the CCR should be CORE router, right? BGP, OSPF, I was hoping as well, that "release candidate" is almost the final version, so I convinced my boss to order two CCR's. The result is, that now I have two devices I simply can't use. It is so unstable :( And, I have to explain to my boss somehow that we just throw away some money. Even that is not so important, my question is how the hell is it possible to have a "release candidate" version which, on your hardware, simply drops a line that is just have being rebooted before of power outage, when actually nothing happened, and the uptime counter is still counting? If it will be only about a false entry in the log, I really wont mind. But, the result of this is that after that, I am not able to log in again. All users simply have disappeared, and the default admin user with no password set is present. All other configuration is intact.
I wanted to do a supout.rif and send it to MTik support, but it is not possible. The file is not created even after 30 minutes of waiting.
Secondly, the CPU's are not equally loaded. It is often to have 1 core on 100%. L7 filtering that works flawlessly on v5.21 is pushing the CPU usage on the CCR above 85% and locks the whole router.

These are all errors that completely prevent any real production usage of the CCR. This should not be possible to happen at all in a "release candidate" version. The hardware is OK I guess, but the software have to be improved significantly. I hope you agree with me about that.

And finally, don't misunderstand me. I am a true MikroTik lover, and everything I wrote is not a negative criticism. I fought many battles with Cisco engineers so far, and the CCR was my trupm card. Well, I can't say I bet well. Hopefully this is going to be solved, very soon :)

Normis,

As I wrote before, it was not possible to make the supout.rif. The file was never created, we were waiting for 30+ minutes.
At this moment, I can't even access the router, as my username/password combination is not recognized, neither the default admin/no_password works. I will, however, reset the router to factory defaults and will try to replicate everything. Hopefully I will be able to make the supout.rif. Worst case scenario, I'm ready to send you the router if you wish. I'm really willing to do anything what is in my power to get this sorted out and help make ROS better.

at the minimum, send us the l7 rules that you used, and the basic config, so we can repeat the issue.

Mail sent to support@mikrotik.com

If there is literally anything I can do, please let me know. Thanks a million!

You're completely missing the point.

Mikrotik are selling this now, for use in production. There is no non beta/alpha for these things to run on.

If there was a stable version to step down to, fine. But there isn't. This is being marketed as carrier grade. While the hardware specs might be, RouterOS 6 isn't.

Other routers do just as much as RouterOS. It's not some magical routing software. Mikrotik should have done more testing before release.

People defending this annoy me. You can't get away with this sort of thing in the enterprise world.

Hello again infused,
You're completely missing the point.
If so, then I am sorry about this and should say please excuse me.
I know by my self that I have not so good English language skills, so please accept if I am not
really can declare some things and coming closer to the real point I want to.
Mikrotik are selling this now, for use in production.
As I see the situation right now and I am informed, please correct me if I am once more again wrong with this,
MikroTik was some times announcing a shipping date for the CCR series and many peoples were told them
back, please ship it now and we test it then stable or not, but we have our hands on this device and
can do some tests and/or be willing to report some issues or failures. And under this massively "pressure"
MikroTik was beginning the shipping of the CCR series, once more again only as I see it!
There is no non beta/alpha for these things to run on.
For sure I must consider once more again, but this is the first 64Bit RouterOS and the CCR series is a brand new
hardware architectural type never used before by MikroTik! And for me this indicates, that MikroTik was
porting the RouterOS from the MIPSBE or PPC platform basis to the Tilera one. And then this is the first version
of the RouterOS and also on top an new one, changing from ROS v5 to ROS v6. So three things were given:
1. The first 64Bit RouterOS
2. On a new hardware platform or hardware architecture type
3. The change from a version 5.xx to version 6.xx

Ok perhaps you and many other peoples see it in another way, for sure, but then we all were waiting until now or the next month before it will became true available to buy, perhaps you will prefer this way for sure it is another solution
to bring out a new device that is stable and also only if the RouterOS is stable enough. But then I give you the promise,
I don´t want to swear on it, but in this forum the most peoples should perhaps running wild at one point, because they want to take their hands on this device or plain want to test it out for their business, after seeing it in action at a MUM.
If there was a stable version to step down to, fine. But there isn't.
For sure this is the first 64Bit version ported from former hardware platforms to the Tilera one, there was never a
64Bit RouterOS available for the public, once more again never before. So they can´t offer those one.
And for sure I can assume that many peoples perhaps were thinking this device comes with stable hardware and software out, ready to use it in production. But as the user ste was declaring it and many other peoples were also
thinking; At first wait until hardware is running stable and at first wait until the so called "children illnesses"
are gone, for sure if you one of them who was not knowing this and you was expect that this device is production ready without any kind of issues or failure I can imagine that you are now a little bit angry, for sure.
This is being marketed as carrier grade. While the hardware specs might be, RouterOS 6 isn't.
But this is also or mostly pending were you are and what you take there fore as the point to compare.
If I or we have to pay 30.000 € or $30.000 for each device and MikroTik is a NASDAQ notated company
and Gartner or Tolly are watching each device launch, we will get our hands on those devices in the early of 2014,
perhaps. But for this money MikroTik is also able to hire a whole crowed of code writer to bring it false free out.
And the most thing I am very often stumbling on, is the following; Money for each device and the Software should be
often compared against other vendors, but the company size is often not counted in this game also, only in my poor opinion, MikroTik is a small company from Lativa with 80 employees, and not a global acting concern giant with 3000 till 20.000 employees, I think this should also be also recognized, counted and honoured.
Other routers do just as much as RouterOS. It's not some magical routing software. Mikrotik should have done more testing before release.
Magic is used by us in hogwarts, but not in technical companies that are producing routers, for sure.
But what will be the end of this? We get a new email with a link to the newest newsletter and that´s it then.
Ok perhaps many clients, customers and users prefer this methods and other vendors also doing this since they exist!
Let us see PC Engines the manufacturer of the Alix board series, they will not inform you until the middle of the next year
about their new Alix board series with GB LAN ports, for sure.
Or Ubiquiti is not prowling out that you will be able to buy the rest of EdgeMax during March or April this year and by the way we let run a Debian clone on this device you should now also, nobody is telling your before I swear.
Or Cisco is not bringing the information to you that they are assembling new WLAN Controller devices, after the buying of Meraki, for sure why should they all do so. But hey let us be realistic, if there is a new MikroTik device, the most peoples want to get their hands on and/or be willing to test it out, only in my poor opinion.
Perhaps MikroTik is or will also changing this in the future, but for sure there are also the same number of users who
want to know much about the newest devices from them.
People defending this annoy me.
So once more again, sorry for doing so, it was not in my attempt to bother with anyone here on this thread or in the whole forum, but I think each of us should be able to speak freely here, either what kind of meaning or stand point the user has.
You can't get away with this sort of thing in the enterprise world.
I will consider to 50 % to this. But each "first step" comes often with unknown things and problems you were not able to imagine before. And we are talking about MikroTik from Latvia and not about another company, from the so called world wide acting big 5, so where should be the problem now.
And Cisco is exactly one of this companies, for sure and where are their devices for wireless management and such as real wireless lan controllers are gone? Most of them were setted at EoL (End of Live) status, but after they were buying a very well known company with hard skills and knowledge in wireless lan assembling, we will see in the near future
perhaps some interesting devices for wireless lan I will bet for. So you see nobody is perfect.

And if I see that normis was answering at the 24th December to somebody some thing like this:
"If you do this or try out this it should working for you, I am at home now and I am baking Christmas cakes."
For sure I can´t imagine how many work they have to do at this time, questions and problems with the RB2011, with RouterOS v6 and the new CCR series. But on the other side I am very impressed about that they are bringing out
new device, because we are during a world wide crisis and the most other companies don´t do so or don´t like to inform us what they are doing.

And if other devices pending or based on the same hardware architecture, will be launched by MikroTik like a 8 Core Tilera for wireless lan management or a 9 core Tilera as a wireless controller or a 100 core Tilera with SFP+ support, it is much easier for them, because then the most issues should be gone away. And they are also more familiar with the new
architecture, as I see it. But perhaps they should try out also what you are "suggesting", don´t tell anything, all must be proofed before the launch, either hardware and software and then will should be informed at one day that this devices are available for us to buy.

@Dobby
I dont understand what you are defending. The guy is asking just a more stable version. Mikrotik already responded that they are working on this. Issue is solved.

Dont stick an answer everytime someone criticize little things over here and there. At the end we will have a stable version with no serious show stoppers and we know it. Let the people say what they need

I understand your point of view Dobby. I simply do not care whether this is first time when 64bit RouterOS is out. I am customer and I expect product to be functional without sticker "Tested on users", without waiting to next software releases again and again. I think Mikrotik tries to enter "enterprise" league but with old-fashioned way (bugfix followed by bugfix bugfixes, slow response from support etc. etc.). I am programmer, I manage several 24/7 enterprise systems and I know how hard is it to solve problems caused by semi-functional products in this kind of environment.
From my point of view - THIS IS NOT the way how to bring powerful flagship router to users.

Hello everyone. The initial batch of CCR devices was called "pre production" and it was clarified everywhere. Even our webpage says "Pre-production samples for evaluation purposes will be available from Distributors"

Normis, I don't mean to be disrespectful, i read these forums alot and its great education

But regardless of your post, it don't matter that is BAD FORM, and a terrible business idea to do that.
We are customers you cant reason with us, so you must do the correct thing, you will never win a this battle unless its done correctly, then and only then will people not complain.
I do not own a CCR, and The exact reason i did not buy one, is because historically you guys seem to break things alot when you release something, its a common saying that one update fix one thing but break's another.
Honestly I'm not even sure it was said that this was pre-production what ever on the website before, but in case it was, I did'nt
see any effort to make it clear on the forums, it is GOOD FORM to make customers aware! even if you explain that a number times on the forum, it shows your doing the right thing, anyway the point im making is I am kinda disappointed when i see something come out even if its a update to a fix, the realease comes out, and my staff and upper management ask me why why why why
did that upgrade break something else that was working. I will not keep having this pathetic argument with my work peers and work management, if you don't make an effort to develop a Proper lab and sandbox in your own workplace.

lets face it your semi "indevelopment" with ROS still, if you dont have the man power then develop a way so that we can assist you to test features, and have it doccumented.

Ever visited Sourceforge? you create a trouble ticket, you can actually see the progress of the bug/issue and assist.

I demand this kind of support. otherwise i can not affort to put my name on the line to use such products in our company
P.S i work for the 3rd largest ISP in australia, top 200 ASX listed.

the post below is an example of why something needs to be improved.

P.S hell id even help you setup a Sourceforge type ticketing system
AND MAKE IT PUBLIC readable !

again i don't mean to be disrespectful

I do not know where you all are from, but this conversation for me looks like usual - give Cisco quality product/support for the MikroTik price!!
And this kind of topic comes to live every time there is new RouterOS version and/or new shiny product/wireless protocol.
And i have been in this forum for a while, believe me :)

Over the years i developed a system that allows me to work with Mikrotik without big headache, i have shared this before several times, but this looks like ideal place to do it again.

First of all, you must have test network, ether in your lab, or special customers that agree to be crash dummies once a week for reduced monthly price, i have this written in the contracts.
This allows me to ensure that stuff that i need on that particular configuration works, if it doesn't i work with MikroTik support to get it to work, before i apply it in the network.

For last month or more i was doing exactly that and now almost all my wireless links (crash dummies, and other customers) are working on v6.x without any problems, and even better than with v5 (thanks to Uldis and fastpath).

For my way of thinking/approach this CCR "pre-production" is just ideal - you can get only one piece for the lab, just to start experimenting, working with support to get all the necessary stuff working, understanding how much performance you will get and where to put this device when availability of this product will not be limited.

I completely agree with you. But, there are some serious issues with the release of the CCR:

It was really not clearly stated that these are "pre-production" devices and what level of functionality is expected at all in the beginning. At first, Mikrotik should direct suppliers to inform the buyers before they place an order. We placed our order here:

http://www.wifi-stock.com/details/mikro ... 2g-4s.html

A very good and honest supplier, we are doing business with them for a long time and will continue, for sure. But if you take a look at the ordering page, it is NOWHERE stated that you are buying a "beta" unit, and that you should expect any problems with it. So, this is my point.

Secondly, there must be a certain level of both software and hardware stability before any new product hit the shelves of the suppliers. Our CCR fails at the very basics, resets users and passwords for no reason by itself. This is an error that affects any testing so badly that you cannot put the unit even to the most basic production to test it and communicate with support to fix the refinements.

I am now in a very inconvenient position: I suggested my boss to buy 4 units: two for Sierra Leone, where I am located and two for Germany. In Germany, CCRs were supposed to replace the very old Cisco routers. I know that there are always minor issues with new MikroTik products, but I expected the just released CCR to be able to do at least the basic functionality without serious problems. It is simply not possible at this stage, and I gave so much ammunition to the Cisco engineer in Germany who wants us to invest in Cisco only... This really makes me feel very, very bad. It's not about the invested money, CCR is much cheaper than it really should cost, I won't mind even double the price. It is about bad recommendation from me, and trust.

I hope so that everybody got my point.

The pre-production CCR doesn't have any hardware differences from production CCR. The only difference is the RC version of software. We are releasing updates to adress all issues. Like macgaiver said, the idea was to deliver hardware ahead of software, because software you can update at any point, but shipping takes time. This way, you already have your unit ready for use, when we deliver new software (for example v6.0)

Normis, currently I am searching CCR offers of several main distributors in our country, there is NO word about "pre-production" status in their product descriptions.
In this situation, in environment I manage, I can not afford to buy a toy which maybe turns into tool I need in unspecified future. I intentionally used word "unspecified" because I do not even know, if there is some fixed release date of RouterOS v6. And this level of uncertainty is too high for enterprise products from my point of view.

You can read through this topic, and aside from the unjustified panic regarding the "RC" in the version name, you will see that there are actually very few issues with the current RC6. Those issues will be fixed very soon.

Don't blame MikroTik, that distributors do not play fair with you.
As usual distributors' sales department is ready to sell everything, because bigger sale means bigger salary :) .
AFAIR it was clearly stated by Normis (before MT sent CCRs to distributors) that first CCR shipment will be 'pre-production'.

And what about the mysterious "router was rebooted without proper shutdown" in log file and reset of all usernames to default "admin/no_password"? Am I the only one experiencing this on CCR, or my device is faulty and it has nothing to do with ROS bugs?

when you connect over MAC address, config is loaded very slowly. It is possible that you simply don't see it, but it's there. Connect via IP and then check. We have no other such reports so far.

I was connecting to IP address, not MAC, and received back the "Wrong username/password" message.

Well, maybe it is only this one CCR faulty. I have another one here, still unboxed. Will try that one and will let you know what happens.

BTW, in the "CCR" topic, I'm not alone with false reboot log entries:
@ jager
Yes I confirm that the same bug exists here too. Uptime counts, no reboots but log says that it rebooted.
Doush is using the default username with no password set, I asked him to set up a custom username, and report does he also suffer from users disappearing.

Does anybody else experience this? Is this only CCR related?

ok we have seen a supout.rif file with this, we are investigating.

I wanted to make it, but even after more than 30 minutes, the file was not created. I will try again, I have to succeed at the end!

Normis, can you check inside that supout.rif you received for the false positive reboot entry in log, is there any users on that system beside the default "admin"? If not, may be you already have the supout.rif you are asking for!

Hello antoninn,

perhaps it is more pointed to my strange demands of the quality from products, more plain related to my standpoint or
that I am a realist, perhaps all together make me looking as an even being critic or a small censor.
But mostly I think it is only related to my bad English and I am mostly have to say sorry after some discussions
causing that I am not able to hit the real point directly likes you others are able to do.

As you was explaining it by your self, that it can be a pain to solve problems and failures out, for sure I must really consider without any excuses, but here in this case I think more then only one of this point are coming together
and this is bringing the right smell in this case.
I think Mikrotik tries to enter "enterprise" league but with old-fashioned way
I hope not, but if so, then we all have to pay also the enterprise prices!
For sure if you be willing to pay ~5000 € and wait until June or August 2013 when this device should be launched and
able to buy, for sure perhaps it should the right way and Mikrotik have to think about.
From my point of view - THIS IS NOT the way how to bring powerful flagship router to users.
For sure I don´t want to turn you away from your stand point or point of view, but crying is also in my eyes not a real
solution. And pending of the number of employees working at MikroTik and/or the given capabilities that comes with the
CCR series I would point this device more against the Draytek Vigor 3900 that is is at the same price range.

For myself Mikrotik were begin the shipping of this router that some peoples are able to get their hands on, for testing proposers and taking a first look on it, the power it coming with this device, that perhaps expected things should be true or not, that this will be the right device for them or not and not a market launch for the whole masses, pronounced to be stable and production ready and also false free.

And pending on the here told support wishes and the way MikroTik is going to solve issues out and serve their clients,
perhaps those routers should be really placed to start up at the $3500 level and a license level 4 is starting at
$1500 up stairs and this makes together $5000, but then MikroTik is able to hire some more code writers and support peoples because a half year pro support is then able to buy for $600 and they are starting the market launch as the most peoples will expecting, something like one year after it was shown at a MUM. Why not trying it out? Perhaps you are really right with your meaning, for sure I will consider, if your are right with this and it helps many customers more out then now.

@jager
It was really not clearly stated that these are "pre-production" devices and what level of functionality is expected at all in the beginning.
Please read this first two posts at this side by recognizing the date, shown under the link in the next line.
http://forum.mikrotik.com/viewtopic.php ... &start=150
User "asaleh75" was asking and normis was answering.

But I really think the CCR series will be like a hot iron in the fire and the most Distributors were perhaps not
placing the same statement on their webpage, to inform all customers and clients.

Last but not least, I personally think that MikroTik want to be able to gives some people a first touch on it, to be able to see what kind of device comes really out, perhaps should future versions of this Tilera based devices, whatever they comes sorted with 8,9 or 100 cpu cores, as a capable SFP+ core router, for wireless management or as a real wireless controller only for some peoples directly shipped by MikroTik or even sold at the MUM to peoples how want to test
devices.

At least, like macgaiver was explaining it, should be a good solution for everyone, in whatever business they are staying.

@Normis
clicking on interface>ethernet from winbox in v6.0rc6 on RB800+RB616 makes the winbox quit and it creates a autosup file. There is no way you can see interface>ethernet from winbox. winbox shuts down automatically.

On my CCR;
there are random "router rebooted etc.." messages although there is no reboot. (v6.0rc6)

@jager
I couldnt reproduce the user/pass issue. But 1 very strange thing i noticed is that when I power off/on the device, after kernel loads and services start loading, the board reboots again from scracth and the process starts again. In the 2nd time, router could boot properly. Very strange..

what type of traffic do you have there? how much configuration? you simply ran out of memory, maybe you should optimize your setup?

Al of you who replied to the upset post i created, i dont mean to upset anyone
but none of you have successfully justified the issues at hand.

I am not expecting cisco service from mikrotik
I am not blaming anyone

cut the crap guys, There needs to be an improvement. thats it, stop defending
Ive been around a long time, ive had enough, If i didnt care, I would not even post here.

Something needs to be improved, i made an effort and suggested a "sourceforge type" bug/fault ticketing system

who else likes this idea, I also find it disturbing that mikrotik staff did not comment on that.
are you saying its a bad idea, or not capable of doing so?
any reply is better than ignorance.

many apologizes.

Which hardware or ROS version has made you such a MT believer that you'd blindly order rev1 hardware with ROS that is not yet stable, contains the most changes of all other major ROS releases and runs on entirely new platform?

I'm asking because none of the following is a confidence builder:

- routerboards that were sold with low quality capacitors
- first revisions of RB800 that were shutting down, and subsequent DYI resistor fix
- NV2 that took 17-20 ROS revisions
- BGP cache bug
- RB1100 that was released with 64MB of RAM while being advertised having 512MB
- Hardware encryption feature available on first rev RB1100 subsequently removed in later version of the board
- RB750UP with PoE troubles
- inadequate cable routing causing port failure in first versions of outdoor units
- switch chip troubles with RB4xxG hardware
- and mentioned above, ROS6RC causing all kinds of issues even on venerable MIPSE platform

Offering limited run of CCR to general public was a good idea -as indicated byall the troubles found with the platform. However, MT failed to manage expectations and sold beta product as production ready. A marketing disaster in the making but having weathered previous issues listed above perhaps emboldened the company to just go with it. I'm guessing that release of EdgeMax at the end of the 2012 had something to do with it as well.

hai mikrotik team.

in 5.22 /queue tree or simple, i can use queue type "only-hardware-queue", but in 6.0rc6 the flags shows "invalid". i tried RB750GL and RBSXT.

and anyone experienced with this?

thank you.

No hardware or ROS. My needs are very basic, so I really expected that at least the basic functionality will work on RC release when it is about very important new piece of hardware.

Its a very simple configuration. The router (411) has OSPF set up on the LAN and wireless link, with a few scripts that enable/disable queues and mangle rules depending on the time of day.

When the router is rebooted it starts out fine with about 15/32MB free memory, but after a day or two it runs down so far that the router simply reboots.

Also, with the connection tracking set on Auto, it doesn't show any connections when the Mangle rules and queues are turned on.

RB411 is a simple CPE type of device. You have dynamic routing, scroptig - it's not so simple at all. Maybe you should consider RB433AH, which has more memory and is faster?

This setting is only for interfaces. We will fix this issue, in future you will not be able to select this value for queues.

Hello everyone. The initial batch of CCR devices was called "pre production" and it was clarified everywhere. Even our webpage says "Pre-production samples for evaluation purposes will be available from Distributors"

http://routerboard.com/CCR1036-12G-4S
That's not what your distributors are saying. That lies the problem. My box didn't say pre-production. It said upgrade to the newest RouterOS asap. I only came to the forums after I bought the CCR.

Dobby: Mikrotik are aiming this at enterprise with this device. Your English is fine. I understand where you are coming from.

Are you saying that RB411 does not have a memory leak, but rather that it does not have enough memory to do the job properly?

Because with the same configuration we never had this issue with ROS 5.22, only with ROS 6 RC 6

I can't tell you for sure, you should send supout.rif file to support. But it's possible.

Hi

We also have several RB433AH running the same configuration with ROS 6. The use around 30MB of memory, but every couple of hours it reboots and says "critical error, rebooted by watchdog timer". This makes me think the issue is with ROS and not the config.

We will send a supout file to support of the RB411.

There RB450G with established ROS 6.0 rc6.
Often there is a bug that sometimes kernel panic, that igmp proxy occupies 80% of the processor, but not yet. After the restart does not occur for 1-3 days, then repeat.

hardware is identical. only the software will change. if we would have different product name, then after upgrading the units to 6.0, there would be more confusion.

Also, we have another problem.

We have 4 x 433AH connected to RB2011, all running ROS 6 RC 6. All are set to connection tracking auto. When the firewall rules turn on, only 3 of the 4 RB433AH show connections in the tracker, while the 4th does nothing.

Why is this?

Its not a big problem
I notice this too week ago on 2 RBs when its on auto seem connection tracking is off (firewall on)
just put it on yes
maybe ROS need some reason that we don't know to turn it on /like firewall on or something else

About those RX drops, I already explained above, that these are not new drops, they are the same drops that you had before, but now we can correctly count them. This is all invalid traffic. For example IPv6 traffic if you have no IPv6 package etc.

Hi

we dont want to say yes to turn it on
we want to leave it on auto and it must come on automatically when 1 firewall rule or mangle rule is switched on
according to mikrotik you need 1 firewall rule enabled and it will come on

If you have rules that don't turn tracking on, it means that tracking is not needed for those rules. Add some rules that use tracking, and it will enable.

Normis, this does not make sense.

We have 2 x 433AH with identical configuration running ROS 6 RC 6. Both have over 50 mangle rules and connection tracking set to auto. On one of them, when I enable only 1 mangle rule, connection tracking turns on. On the other one, nothing happens.

Please explain?

lol Dude u must be joking

those rules are triggering mechanism for conn. tracking to be on, on ur RB something is wrong, or something went wrong after upgrade or whatever (how the hell would Normis know what is wrong if he doesn't have ur RB config)
just set it on yes - and than observe if ur mangle rules or firewall rules are working - u know if there is noting to filter or mangle there is no need conn. tracking to be on -all rules dont use tracking etc etc

wait till the finale v6.0 and than if it doesn't work complain about it to support

yes it does work when we set it on yes
you are missing the point we are trying to figure out what is wrong on our side so if it is a ros problem thats all we want to know so we dont have to spend hours trying to find the problem
and yes we know it is not the final version

Would it be possible to implement additional Rx/Tx stats tab for interfaces which would break it down to more detailed information about what exactly is being dropped? This would definitely clear a lot of confusion in such situations.

Basically this would be the same as you looking at packet sniffer. There is just too many type of packets that can be dropped.

It could be more or less something simple. Aggregating them into IPv4, IPv6, Other protocol, Driver related drops would be sufficient. This way it would be easier to differentiate between an invalid packet and interface/driver related drop. I think people are mostly concerned about interface related drops and this would clear it up.

I have installed RouterOS 6.0 rc6 in my MikroTik Router RB450G.
Seem some problems with DHCP Server which cannot assign ips to clients and also Rx Drops from the Uploading Ethernet Port.
Can u guys please help me out...

I had the same problem as you, I have a RB450G with OS 6.0RC5, I decided to upgrade to RC6 and ready, the same problem happened to her, I thought that was my problem in the UBNT antennas, because some clients could connect, and others stayed with "limited or no connection" to solve the problem had to downgrade to OS RC5 again, only then solved the problem, this OS 6.0 RC6 is giving this problem in RBs 450g, mikrotik of hope Would anyone watch this and comment solve this problem with the RB 450g in RouterOS 6.0 RC6.

+1 to this !

What is the right solution if want two dhcp servers to create the hotspot and the cable dhcp

At the moment it is not on, and then Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (dhcp) lease näe cable ip addresses. I have a RB2011UAS-2HnD-IN the router and 6.0 RC6 software
If you choose to improve communications between more remote quick set up there at the moment is the AP but that it would be correct to allow both DYNAMIC HOST CONFIGURATION PROTOCOL (DHCP) to work, at least shows the ip list, both
the choice is AP, CPE, Home AP, PTP Bridge

What is the right choice for ?
Help!

For one, please work on your English, it's almost impossible to understand what you are asking. Second, this is a topic about the v6.0rc6 firmware and your question has nothing to do with it?

You are asking how to configure multiple DHCP servers? This is possible, please read in the documentation on how to achieve this and otherwise open a thread in the appropriate forum please. It’s not very hard, but probably not possible with the ‘quick set' settings. It’s best to start from scratch and go and test from there, that way you’ll also learn how and why it works. But as said, if you need more help, please open a topic on the appropriate forum. This is in no way hardware or routerOS version related.

On a side note, DHCP in v6.0rc6 seems to be broken as mentioned before in this topic. From what I’ve read, it has something to do with running VLAN’s or not I personally am and it works in v6.0rc5 and not v6.0rc6.

Hello estdata,

in normal cases, terms and conditions it would be good to have only one DHCP server inside of a network, because
after a long time you will get in trouble, not ever, but mostly.
But if you have really the need of them, there are two solutions, one is very fast to set up and the other
will need some more knowledge, so you can easily choose between them!

1. Set up two DHCP servers each for another or a separate subnet and use the DHCP Relay agent function.
http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:IP/DHCP_Relay
2. Set up several VLANs and sort each of them with another IP address range (subnet) and let the router serve
them. http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:Interface/VLAN

Good luck estdata.
And now back to v6.0rc6 :D

Is DHCP confirmed broken?
YES.

I can confirm that in 6.0rc6, DHCP is unstable. It works for awhile, then it stops giving out ip addresses. The computers just sit there trying and trying to get an address.

If I reboot the router, the computers get an IP address right away.

It happened to me once too, with DHCP server being on VLAN interface.

Hi normis.

Can you confirm if Metarouter support is planned for the dual core routers? If so, do you have a time frame?

Thanks for fixing the problem.

Also, can you please have a look at ROS 6 on routerboards with 32MB memory, as the memory usage increases to the point where the router just hangs/reboots because its run out of memory. This is especially common on the RB411 and RB711

Thanks

this has already been adressed in rc6. currently the situation is identical with v5.22, accroding to our (intensive) testing. don't be alarmed by "system resources" numbers, because in v6rc6 the RAM usage is displayed more accruately, and it shows more than v6rc5 or v5.22. previously some programs were not calculated. it shows more, but uses the same amount as previously.

Also my "defalut" config, pointing towards this device (just changed ID from 55 to 56 on the v6 rc6)

It seems like it have something to do when router is configurated. If i take a /system reset and just give it a ip, all is ok.

Normis, we understand that, but it is not what we mean.

We have RB411 and RB711 each with 32MB memory. With ROS 6, when we reboot the RB is starts off with 15MB free memory. After about 5 hours it is down to 7MB free memory. After another few hours it runs down to almost 2MB and then the watchdog timer automatically reboots it. If you disable watchdog timer, the router just hangs.

So what I mean is not that memory shows incorrectly, but rather that memory is leaking out.

Thanks

Ok, what configuration do you have there? Is it possible to make a supout.rif file when you have 7MB?

samsung, this is the v6rc6 topic. post this somewhere else. you have v5.22
no. this is a export of config. Since it just hanginng taking a /export in v6rc6. See my other post in this tread. (the issue is that the router dont respond) . This config was so its possible to reproduce the error. Supout is also "not responding. Se error Message i posted earlier in this tread)

The problem is if i Upgrade a router With this config, nothing respond in cli. Its not possible doing annyting. Ospf, will not Connect, and i cannot add static route. Not possible getting the Device by IP couse of this. Not tried winbox trough mac-address, but cli dont respond commands doning mac-telnet or telnet by ip. I have some prossess, not knowing what, having almout 100% CPU. This may be the issue. But i cannot do annything better than to post the config of the router in 5.22. The error just happening after importing config. If i do a /system reset - its ok. If i just give it a ip, and default Gateway, its ok. But when i enable MPLS, enable OSPF and BGP, somthing is happening.

Earlier you asked for a sup-out, but its not possible to get. I just getting a wired error (see page 1 in this post)

dhcp problem also fixed in rc7.

I'm afraid to do new updates after this RC6 with DHCP buggy because my clients were furious to stay one day without internet.

in RC6 - LCD worked in 2011UAS-xxxxx-IN without any efforts !!
just like it "should be". any feats from wiki/advertisements - works from single touch at lightspeed !
I'm afraid to do new updates after this RC6 with DHCP buggy because my clients were furious to stay one day without internet.

well, actually home user[especially enthusiastic]can use non-critical part of home network for testing.
anway, there always handy Netboot thingy for anyone unlucky enough to bricking his cute RB.
for production using untested stuff - are out of question in sane companies.
but medium/big-size companies always had test lab[2 be ready for emerging tech/vectors/products/trends aswell as to help partners test vital products before release to wide public].
about DHCP - anyone tried it in rc6 with unreasonably short lease time[about five minutes, for example] ?
saw similar stuff on some home routers with clients abusing it[ARP-spoofing for example, routing hijacking and etc]. try turn RF Filter to "strict". helped ease it a bit in my case. *dreaming about SEND support for both IPv6 and IPv4 in future RouterOS aswell as NAPT[and2rd IPv6] going to be standardized as part of IPv6*

I'm running a CCR in production. VMWare hosting. It's rebooted once in 10 days. Apart from that it's been solid. Most of the reported bugs are on features I'm not using.

thats why i tend to purge unused packages from my RB's.
for particular case its calea[LI implemented differently in my country and don't need such stuff in NW FW], gps, hotspot, ups. also most home users can safely purge mpls and [sadly]IPv6.
CCR quite new product, so some imperfections are expected, sadly, but quite nice toy for networking :)
especially for price =)

I suggest keeping a serial cable connected, so that you can copy any messages that appear on the serial console before it reboots. Send them to support! Thanks!

@Normis
clicking on interface>ethernet from winbox in v6.0rc6 on RB800+RB616 makes the winbox quit and it creates a autosup file. There is no way you can see interface>ethernet from winbox. winbox shuts down automatically.
Did you see this normis ?

Re: v6 rc6 released

Mon Jan 14, 2013 1:05 pm

I have a small issue with RC6 that just worked in v5.x. Not sure if this is by design or whether it's a bug.

I have an OpenVPN tunnel running on a seperate Gentoo box for UDP support (hint hint) connecting 3 sites:

192.168.0.0/24
192.168.1.0/24
192.168.10.0/24

The Gentoo box is 192.168.10.10 running as server accepting clients through a NAT port forward on my routerboard 493g. (WAN --> 1194UDP --> 192.168.10.10), it terminates the tunnel in a 10.9.0.0/24 subnet. The configuration of the VPN is fine, the iptables on the Gentoo box are wide open between all VPN subnets and this works.

Because the Gentoo server is in the same network (192.168.10.10) as my clients there is some loopback routing which I am willing to accept. The route from a client in 192.168.10.0/24 to either 192.168.1.0/24 or 192.168.0.0/24 looks like this because the default gateway on the clients is 192.168.10.1:

192.168.10.20(client) --> 192.168.10.1(routerboard) --> 192.168.10.10(gentoo VPN Server) --> 10.9.0.1(Virtual VPN termination network) --> 192.168.1.200(Destination)

1. The client will go to the default gateway 192.168.10.1
2. Routerboard has a static route for the VPN networks pointing back to 192.168.10.10 (gentoo VPN server)
3. Gentoo server will route into the VPN network 10.9.0.1, hop to the VPN client on the other side that will forward the packet to the destination.

I have used a rule on the outgoing chain to drop the ICMP redirect gateway messages.

Used to work fine in RouterOS5 but it suddenly stopped working in RouterOS6 RC. I have done some investigation and it turns out that the packets from 192.168.10.0/24 to any VPN subnet get dropped by the routerboard because of the rule that drops invalid connections. I have seen some posts about bugged connection tracking, perhaps this has something to do with it. If I remove the "state=invalid action=drop" rule or move it down the chain below the rule that allows VPN site to site traffic it works fine.

So,

What would cause the connection to be marked as invalid?
Should it be marked invalid? Is this by design? Perhaps because of the loopback routing?

Any clues?

O I forgot, ping works fine. Any other protocol gets dropped on the invalid state rule.

strange behavior:
upgrade from ROS 5.22 x86 to RC6, same config, same device, same traffic :

I think it`s not. When I tried ROSv6RC upgrading from V5 on X86, my CPU usage decreased from 30% to 25%. But when more than 800 pppoe customer connected, rebooted itself.

Could you please explain here more detail. How many simple queues? Are all those dynamic queues? Have you generated sup-out and sent to MT support? Hardware?

433AH, about 400 simple queues. Every time I log into it, I loose connection. When it comes back, the log says "Kernal Panic" and rebooted.

Random reboots is a problem with this release. I get them on CCR1036 and RB411AH.

Today I had to go manually reboot it. I got 99% packet loss, it didn't totally lock up and reboot so had to manually do it. Will the suppout still report any problems? I should've done it when I had the kernal panic in the log...

If you have an autosupout.rif, send it.

Be sure to include network configuration description or diagram and how you use the router. I don't think they will need the log entries.

How about connection tracking maximum entries on ROSv6? I upgraded my RB1000U to ROSv6rc6 conn-tracking max entries are still 524288. My understanding is if total TCP, UDP connections exceed this limit, router can not handle new connections, right?

That amount depends on amount of memory available - more memory, more connections. Closer your connection table will go to getting full, faster RouterOS will forget about old connections. For example your default TCP Established timeout is 1day, with polluted conntrack table it will be reduced significantly (i have seen down to 3h).

So short answer - router should never get to stage where it can not handle new connections, it most probably will get higher CPU load because of additional operations with conntrack, but as long as you don't have 100% CPU load, you are OK.

ConnTrack max-entries value is probably hard-coded to be max. 524288 (512k) and can't be increased even with huge amount of RAM.
I've asked about this few month ago (http://forum.mikrotik.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=64925) and no one reported value greater than 524288 (in ROS 5.x).
It looks that the same value applies to ROS 6.x.

Regards,

Comparing my different routerboards, I see that conn-track can not use more than 512MB RAM. So it`s limit of operating system (ROS). Maximum can be 524288 even ROSv6. Mikrotik announced that their new V6 will support bigger RAM. But for what, if even conn-track can not use this ability? I`m feeling upset because CCR1036 will handle only 524288 too. :( :( :(

5BGP full-view,queues,firewall

1)random etherenet e1000e freeze at a random time (no tx) (1-20hour)
2)reboot now work, if i reboot router(console, windox) router go to shutdown... not rebooted...

Well it keeps doing it again today. I can login and get to the point where I'm creating a simple queue, then the whole thing locks up and needs a manual reboot. Luckily I have a toughswitch POE to reboot that damn thing from.

Make a suppout? Tried it, never get that far to create it before it locks up. I can't even add a simple queue let alone create a suppout file. What else can be done?!?!

An autosupout.rif is automagically created by the OS when OS knows it has blown up. There may be some types of failure which cause the router to reboot but not create the autosupout.rif.

Look in /files and see if there is already an autosupout.rif.
/files print
Copy it to your computer by drag and drop in winbox or ftp or scp.

I use scp from my laptop or server:
scp username@routerIPaddress:/autosupout.rif autosupout.201301161303.rif
That copies it to a file with a datestamp in the filename in the current directory on my local computer. I make the datestamp from the date and time the autosupout.rif was created on the mikrotik.

edit: Do not add any queues to the router until you have copied off the autosupout.rif file. Otherwise you will just cause it to panic again and it will reboot before you get a chance to copy the file. I wouldn't add your simple queues back until after you hear back from MikroTik support.

Unbelievable. I just logged in to see if I could find the suppout and it locked up before I could even lick the files folder. Didn't add a new queue or anything. Seems logging in with Winbox is enough to shut it down. Glad a have a Ubiquiti ToughSwitch at the tower to reboot it.

queue simple "priority" parameter problem. it does not work if one of them different value with other.

here i repeat the problem.
target download=8 and target upload=8, using winbox > click the rule > go to advanced tab.

1. change "target download" priority to 5 > click apply. it will back automatically to 8.
2. change "target upload" priority to 5 > click apply. "target download" priority always follow the "target upload" priority, so "target download" priority is set automatically to 5.

last words.
"target upload" priority and "target download" priority value could not be different. hope this problem will fixed on next release (rc7).

tested on 2 units RB750GL.

What difference does the priority setting make? Why not leave them all at 8? Why is there even have to be a priority, why can't it just do its job you tell it to. I've looked in the Mikrotik Manual and its not well defined but I would like to learn more with PCQ.

Also, they say performance of simple queues have increased, I've not seen any improvement whatsoever. Set someone at 8Mb burst, and they get 5Mb. Use 8mb PCQ burst and its 100% on. However, is there a limit now to PCQ'ing? It concerns me there are "priorities" that need set now.

Just a small feature release that would be small but great to see in Version 6 and that is an addition to the fetch command.
This would be to redirect the downloaded content to /dev/null rather then having to save it to flash. It would mean that like likes of dynamic update scripts wouldn't be flattening pieces of flash.
Just a thought
Cheers

well, i don't use this feature and leave them all at 8. i just curious about this queue simple new feature in v6 (look at page 14 Janis Megis mum presentation).

i tried rc6 and last rc7, it still doesn't works yet.

Can we get support for more USB wireless adapters? :) I'd love to be able to connect and use my Alfa AWUS036H to the RB2011UAS-2HnD-IN.
