RB750UP red LEDs blinking in unused ports on 12V power

Fri Jan 11, 2013 8:59 pm

I've noticed something strange on my 750UPs. I've tested this on three of them. I'm running 5.22. PoE comtroller is upgraded to 2.1. PoE is set to auto on all ports. When I have 2 or more non-poe devices plugged into the LAN ports, the remaining unused LAN ports blink red. Nothing is plugged into them, but they blink red. If all ports are unused, nothing lights up. If one port is used, it's green connect light is lit. As soon as I connect a second non-poe device, the remaining 2 unused LAN ports start blinking red. If I plug in a third device, I get three green link lights, and the remaining unused port blinks red.

If I have a Groove plugged into any port, the blinking stops. It's port lights up solid red, and green. The other ports act normally. If I turn PoE off on all ports, no red blinking happens. If I leave it set to auto on the Groove port, it blinks red when the Groove is disconnected. Nothing shows up in terminal. Everything seems to work normally, except for the blinking red lights.

This only happens on 12V power. If I switch to 24V, everything acts normally. My case enclosures only have 12V though, as I have another device in them running 12V.

Has anyone seen anything like this? Sorry about the long post.

do you have to less Power. 12V is one thing. but how about amp's?

It is a smaller power supply. 12V, 1.3 Amps (continuous). Max power consumption is rated at 3W for the 750UP, so it should only be drawing 0.25A though, with no POE devices connected. The Groove uses up to 4.56W, or 0.38A at 12V. The strange light problem goes away when I plug in the Groove anyway.

Try a bigger Power and see if it differ.
