433AH dead after firmware upgrade from 2.20 to 3.02

Sun Feb 03, 2013 6:49 pm

I upgraded one of our towers early this morning from 3.30 to 5.23. This upgrade went fine and I decided to upgrade the firmware from 2.20 to 3.02. The tower never came back up after the reboot. A couple of hours later we were onsite and replaced the board. I expected to see drooling capacitors on the board but they looked perfect so I decided to test the board. The board was indeed dead but was brought back to life with a hard reset. Now the board is back to 5.23 with 2.20 firmware and working fine. I upgraded firmware again from 2.20 to 3.02 and rebooted, board is dead again. Is there a prerequisite firmware prior to 3.XX or am I missing something else? I don't want to make another 120 foot, 8:00 AM climb in February. It's cold out there! :-)

I had the same problem some time ago.

I found out that first upgrading to fw 2.41 (ROS5.19) and then to 3.02(ROS5.22+)
works without any problems.

I have writtten about it before and notified MT, but I guess they
havn't taken it seriously.

Thanks for the reply. I'll try that on this board. I've upgraded it several times and it is dead until a hard reset every time.

Is your problem only with the 433AH boards like mine? I've upgraded probably 150 of our 411 clients out there recently with not one problem. Upgrading from every version imaginable. I upgraded the firmware also on each one without a single truck roll.

Re: 433AH dead after firmware upgrade from 2.20 to 3.02 - UP

UPDATE:

I have upgraded several more 433AH that I have as spares. One board is from the same serial number batch. They all upgraded from 2.20 to 3.02 with no issues. Since I have not been able to repeat the problem, I would say this is just an isolated incident with a bad 433AH board.

we will try to find some similar aged boards. Please write with the serial number (or mac address) for board so that we can find one made around the same time and test.

I was not able to repeat the problem on any other 433AH boards that I had. I tested 4 other boards, one with a very similar serial number. I even restored a backup from the suspect board and the other board upgraded fine from 2.20, but here is the info from the suspect board.

Thanks.
