Hi,

I just installed Dude 3rc2 and when I try to upload a Image File it uploads it, and when finish it says Invalid File.

I have tried to upload many types of file, bmp, jpg, png, gif but all with the same results.

I have try to upload with diferent sizes from 3 Mb to 300 kb, but still invalid file.

Could you give me some way to avoid it?

You can drag and drop files into the list... Seems to work lots better than using the + to add a file.

I have a win 2003 server SP1 and I upgraded to rc2 yesterday I tested drag and drop today and it worked fine. I was able to drag and drop from the dude client onto my desktop and then I deleted the file from the dude and dragged and dropped it back in the dude... No trouble.

I would say check the folder permissions but that would mean you couldn't add a device and you would certainly have other problems like graphs would not be updating...

I have prepared other pc fresh install Windows 2003 Server SP2 Full Patched. New The Dude Download and fresh install.

The problem is still the same. I can't drag and drop and can't import images. It do the transfers and finish. One time it has finished it says in the status "Invalid File"

I have test it with BMP, PNG, GIf and JPG. All files still the same. I have not upgraded from previous The Dude Versions, I have installed 3rc2 from scratch.

Any Idea?

Best Regards,
Tete

Hi,

It was the white spaces on the file name and lowercase.

The only thing that must be done is user lowercase and delete white spaces from name.

I could not drag and drop a JPG made from mspaint but I have had no trouble with gif files made in Gimp...

So I made "test.JPG" in mspaint it would not drag and drop but renaming the file to "test.jpg" would drop.

So if your letting mspaint name the file make sure to type the extension in lower case?

Yeah you can just open up the file list and drag and drop from your desktop onto the list of files...

Hi Normis,

I just tried the + sign look at the included image also when an upload is successful it just puts the file in the root folder instead of giving a choice of where to upload it to. Drag and drop is easier...

I was just trying to find out why the original poster was having an issue, I find that there are a lot of little detail items like this that don't work great although overall the program is fantastic a few rounds of cleaning up these issues would go a long way for enterprise users that want to keep using it.

!!!Sorry about the thread hijack!!!
Where I work I showed this to my manager and coworkers and we plan to use it as a live document system instead of Visio and can hardly believe such a neat product is free. We all agree that if you decided to start charging for the product we would purchase it.

The little bugs are easy to work around but they also make me worried that things could go horibly wrong, I could lose all my manually created maps or something... But the import and export has me at ease since it is so simple and XML :) I have even done my own customization to an export and re-imported it and that worked as well.

I have not upgraded to RC3 yet. Is there a list somewhere of the things that were fixed? Is there another candidate coming soon?

I know this is a complex product and you are not making money from it so it is hard to justify spending time on it but I am certain that it could take off and be used by many more people that are willing to pay for it.

One key feature I think would go a long way to get others using The Dude is a simple way to import and export probes as a zip or something. I would love to be able to just find probes premade and add them but looking at the XML I believe there is a good chance the probe would not be unique between people who share probes. I could be completely wrong here so please go easy on me but adding this feature could get your community to be more active in sharing probes, functions and mibs. I want to create a QOS probe... If I do I want to make sure others don't have to create it also. This would be for Cisco devices although I have shared how to build the other probes I have made, a zip would be much easier...

Anyhow here is the test image and the screen shot of the failure to upload. Note I tried to upload this file 3 times just renaming the file each time...

For me it was just changing the case NewNetwork.JPG to newnetwork.jpg then drag and drop. I use Dude 4.0beta3.
