In Game issue.

Wed Apr 10, 2013 7:05 pm

Hi there,

I have an issue in one my games, and please don't send me to the developers because I have done certain tests which make me think that Mikrotik or either mine configuration is somehow causing the issue.

The game is called League of Legends and the problem is with spectating mode in this game. Basically once I enter spectate mode I receive an error message 'connection to spectator server failed'. I was blaming the developer because I checked in 3 different PCs with XP, Win7, Win8 and the behavior was the same. Also tried re-installing with no effect.

I am connecting My routerbard though PPPoE to a DSL Modem in Bridge mode which is connected to my Phone line. When I plug my computer into my modem directly and then create PPPoE connection in my windows I can use the spectate mode with no issue, it just works.

I mean through mikrotik everything works, websites, streaming, skype, all except this spectate mode which is very very weird and super annoying. I tried disabling all Firewall rules (NAT, Mangle), Queues... nothing helps. I have basic configuration so PPPoE got external IP with 'Add Defult Route' enabled going in to Port Eth1, then rest is bridged and DHCP server is configured on it. I mean I see no sense behind but the fact is that when I obey mikrotik all works.

I will try to use a different tplink router to see if I can reproduce the issue on it.

Any ideas will be much appreciated.

Just tested through TP-LINK. Could not reproduce the issue.

Attached TP Link to a modem and got IP addresses through PPPoE connection. Attached my pc to LAN port, got IP from DHCP and all works fine. Spectate mode just works as a charm.

Will do more testing on Mikrotik.

Resolved.

Apparently this spectating mode is using port 8088 which I had directed towards my WebCam server ;/ It took me a while to find this out but it works.

Interestingly,

I have a RB450G at home and for about 18 months I could not access Channel 4OD but it worked everywhere else i tried it. ( i was on old ROS 4 though )

During this time i had absolutely no other issues with my internet connection and all other streaming media worked fine.

When updating to V6 RC11 my 4OD issue disappeared.

So it is likely that its your router.

Have you updated to the latest firmware?

Thanks for reply, I had a NAT rule which was causing this issue. Sudenly while testing I observed growing packets on a NAT rule when I entered the spectated mode, I disabled the rule and it works.

My Router os is 6.0rc13 so I think its the latest.
