RB532 as client?

Tue Apr 09, 2013 10:22 pm

Hi,
Total new to this, but trying to learn :) Read up on several posts, but can't figure this out.
Got an old RB 532, and winbox say 5.24, that I guess is the RB software version..

I am going to use this as a client, connecting to a AP and sharing the access via a local wireless router. (inside a waterproof box, first with an internal antenna, and if not, external like this

Do anyone got a quick guide for putting this up as a client? I think I got it all right with bridging all the devices and all other tips I found on this board.
I can search for wifi and connecting to my local wifi, providing the WPA password. But then it just say "Searching for network". Pushing the disconnect button, all wifi network around me lists up.

This turned out to be a bigger challenge than I can fix :)

A small update.
I managed to connect (barely) to an open network in my neighbourhood. But the signal is to weak to use it. But it stay connected so the winbox show me that I get IP. Then disconnect, probably because of poor connection.

I now can use a normal TP cable, instead of the crossed one, when I manually set 192.168.0.xxx IP on my local NIC.
I made a new security profile, adding my password there. Putting this new profile to the SSID of my local wifi, but still searching network.
Not sure why I have to input password in the "quick set" page, since it also have a security profile with the password in?

Happy for any help or pointing in the right direction :)

I actually got it to work as I want, but not with wireless security.
I can not connect to my local wifi with WPA or WPA2. Also tried to change channel, if that has anything to do with it.
I am pretty shure my wifi-card on the 532 support WPA and WPA2, since it list up my wifi with security enabled.
When turning off the security, everything works great. I now has my 532 connected to my wifi, and ethernet to a wireless AP that I can connect all my computers and phones to.

I made an extra security profile, but still no luck. Is there an other place in WinBox that I have not yet found, that need some input?

Happy for any help :)
