35KM PTP Link

Mon Mar 11, 2013 8:31 am

Mates,

Need you help. Be putting up a 35KM Point to Point Link. Initially I've taught of using Metal 5HnD and a 2 foot Parabolic Dish.

Other hardware recommendation highly appreciate
- Please specify Radio and Antenna Model

Thanks.

It's a bit too generic as a question. It all depends which bitrate you are looking for, how tall are your sites , if LOS is clear and fresnel zone is not affected, and most of all if that area is populated from other similar devices.
There is no magic formula for a link, everyone is different and need to be planned with all details.

I've never used Metal 5Hnd, most of the times i go for Rb433AH+R52Hn with MIMO dishes. Not all dishes are the same, some of them are better to avoid interference from other local devices.

35km can be complicated, for sure you need some high-gained antennas. On the market there is few good antenna producers who offer dual polarity dish antennas like Cyberbajt, Jirous or UBNT. From these three CyberBajt and Jirous have better parameters than UBNT, but UBNT has 34 dBi antenna (CB and J only 28 and 29 dBi). Regarding the rest, to determine it there is needed more details, will you install the stuff on some masts or a roof of a skyscraper etc ? Do you have line of sight (LOS) as FabFab10 asked you ?

I have 200mbps real speed link on 35km
i used 36dbi 5Ghz antenna on each side Dual pol MIMO+R52Hnd+RB800

Jirous has soething similar to UBNT34db dish. It looks like that:

And now Cyberbajt also introduced:

That's some pretty excessive hardware to use on a PtP link. Is there any particular reason for it?

Geographic location, climate, bandwidth needs, latency requirements, budget, tower/high ground availability?

Hello everybody! We are planning an almost 32 km link, and we need some opinion about equipments,we need 50/25 Mbit/sec TCP speed,we are thinking an Rocket Dish 34 dBi,RB800,Dbii 5 Ghz miniPCI,the LOS is enough good

What do you mean "LOS is good enough"? How is the fresnel zone. Is it free? How high are the towers?

So what do you think,if the freshnel zone is clear what is the expectable TCP speed with these equipments on 32 km?
