Clients Disconnect after inserting a new mac in Access List.

Tue May 07, 2013 5:02 pm

I am running an isp with 433ah as hotspot servers. Each 433AH has two to three wlans (2.4) maintaining an access list of at least 35-40 mac's in each RB433AH. The problem is whenever we insert a new mac address for a new client, all the connected stations get disconnected and they take while to reconnect again whereby affecting the connectivity as well as CCQ. Is there any way out of it. It happens in 4.14 as well as 5.21 vers. Plz Help.

I dont think there is much help to this one, however I can give you some advice..

Fill the access list with 10 bogus entries, for example: 00:00:00:00:00:0a up to 00:00:00:00:00:10 (remember it has to be hex)

Keep a note of at least 1 bogus entry in your diary.

Note, that whenever you modify a MAC entry it does not disconnect all the clients.

I arrive at the client to do the install, I modify the cpe to match the bogus entry in the ACL, then I establish the connection to the AP from the client end.

Then I paste his real MAC address back into the AP ACL over the top of any of the 9 other bogus entries, remember to return the CPE back the real MAC.

When you run out of bogus MACs simply add another 10 or 20 during the night to avoid disruptions.

It works for me.

Thanx alot Simon!

what u have suggested seems to be a great idea. I will try it and will surely let it know. But i think Mikrotik should provide a solution for this problem. Mikrotik has come a long way now and things like this should be a piece of cake for them....!:)

I had such occasion when added blank MAC.
Example, + > select interface (options) or add comment > Apply > insert MAC > OK.

Add MAC first and then make edit.

As i have understood ur post , u mean to suggest that only MAC should be added first and the comments and interface later..!

Not only MAC should be added.
If you add new record and firstly add comment then record will be added with blank MAC and clients will reconnect.
So add MAC and interface/forward/... first.
