Currently we use RB112s, and RB532s accross our entire network. APs are RB532 and CPEs are now RB112. I have in the past week had to replace 3 CPE devices do to power outages during a RouterOS system upgrade. Of course my APs are all on battery backup, but I cannot convince or expect all customers to purchase a UPS for there internet connection. Once the power goes out during the upgrade process the only way to fix them is a direct serial link to tell it to boot from ethernet and use netinstall. This is of great inconveinence as changing a CPE is typically weather permitting not to mention time consuming. Currently the boot options in the RB112 firmware do not have the option of 'Always boot from ethernet 1st, then nand.' This simple option would allow you to go onsite to the customer plug in your laptop, and within a few mins have the unit back up and running, without having to access the serial port. And before anyone points out the 'boot from ethernet once, then nand' option, that does exactly what it says, it boots from ethernet once, then EVERY reboot afterwards it uses nand, not useful in this instance.
If anyone has a workaround for this issue please post, else it would be great it the boys at RouterBoard released a new firmware package with the option.
