Is this possible with latest SWOS?

Thu May 23, 2013 6:13 pm

I am about to upgrade a network to managed switches to add vlans and needing 2 small switches that can pass one vlan trunk with 4 vlans on it. The had an ethernet run that was almost 700' to another building and was having issues needless to say, luckily I was able to fit 2 switches into a large conduit opening that broke the run up into three 233' runs which made it a reliable link to the other building. Here is a diagram, and will a POE injector at each building work ok and if you use POE does that port still support gigabit? Other than passing vlans no other functions will be used, do these units have any issues doing that?

I did something similar with RB250's using gigabit injectors for a 1000' run using v1.6
I had power in the middle and split it into 4 250' links, the middle feeding gig poe in both directions.

Works perfectly. It's a fairly cheap solution.

Be mindful of the vlan 1 issue with SWOS devices and I have had bad luck with MT gigbait injectors. Lots of failures.
