Layer7 QOS - PCC - 5 WAN links

Thu May 30, 2013 4:23 pm

Hello all,

So a few questions regarding the wiki on setting up layer7 qos, http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Basic_tra ... _protocols

My current setup is using a rb1200 as my core router, I have 5x wan adsl ports, all 16mb down and 1mb upload.

I cuurently have pcc load balancing my upstream interfaces, I would like to implemet the layer 7 qos described in the wiki above, what I would like to know is:

For the mangle rules would I create the same set of mangle rules for EACH wan interface?
Would I place these mangle rules below the pcc mangle rules? Does it matter in which order mangle rules are applied(I'm assuming it does??

Has anyone employed this and found it effective for catching/matching Skype packets?

Hi

I myself don't like PCC, I use NTH loadbalancing with 5 WANs.

This works much better than PCC.

On Five 8.5 Mbps Lines I get 30mbps Down and 2mbps Up.

I will post the script later.

Cheers

Thanks Spri, that would be awesome! didn't realise NTH was better as the mikrotik wiki suggests pcc...If I read it right.
Appreciate the help man!

Can anyone else weigh in on this, pcc is newer than nth correct? And is therefore better for load balancing as I understand it.

I will try nth if it's deemed better for performance.

But my burning questions here are, do I need to create the mangle rules shown in the layer7 wiki to all my internet interfaces? Is there no way to set for all internet interfaced?

Do the layer7 mangle rules come after the pcc/nth rules?

I'm not asking anyone to create a script for me...I just want to know about the order of the rules and if I need to create the L7 mangles for each and every wan interface.

Thanks

I'm using ROS v6 and the "global-in" and "global-out" as described in the layer7 wiki are now replaced with just "global".

However after modifying the script and changing global-in/global-out with just global, it does not queue traffic at all, and I've confirmed that the throughput has gone higher than the limits on the queue.

Guys, I'm trying here but failing, can someone please shed some light?
