AR9462 is a 802.11a/b/g/n and bluetooth card :)
wilocity 6120 chip is 60ghz gigabit 802.11ad .

Currently we don't support any type of 802.11ad, but we are reasearching the possibilities.
Can you tell what with 802.11ac chipsets? Qualcomm has new QCA9800 chips - will they work with Mikrotik?

It's good to here Mikrotik is already looking forward for upcoming standards!

Is there a plan to share results or some experiences of researches?

Hi Guys.

Has anyone been able to get their hands on one of these cards. Would love to start experimenting with them. looking for a 50 metre 60GHZ bridge

I notice the drivers are being incorporated into Linux, so might be possible to create a point to point bridge.

For sure, I understand that from mikrotik point of view. I'm sure short range 60GHZ is not going to be a mainstream product. These cards were announced quite a while ago, basically what I am trying to find out is if I can get my hands on two, are they even available for purchase.

If someone made a cheap 60ghz point to point I would simply buy it and not worry, but nobody does...the existing solutions are simply physically too big for 50-100m hops and the price of them (sub10, bridgewave) does not make sense for such short links (over a road, etc)

In many scenarios we simply have to cross a road, building to building...

Athena Wireless has the A060mini 1000mbps FDD link in the 60GHz band. $5,995.00 (I use them.)

Siklu has the EH-1200FX 1000mbps FDD link in the 80GHz band. $6,080.00 (I have the $3,500.00 EH-1200LT on order. Only 700mbps TDD so 350x350 or 500x200).

Siklu has a new 60GHz link ((Coming soon))but I don't think it's gigabit full duplex and the price is to be determined.

There are three other companies working on small short range 60GHz units. But I don't think they will be at the super low price we all want.

Athena Wireless looks like the Huber&Suhner Devices which are now Sub10.

60GHz is a very good option for very short hops (up to 500m). 80GHz is usable depending on the country. You need a wide band so licensing cost may be very high. In some countries it is very cheap.

The Athina uses the same antenna and enclosure but the inside is Athena.

You would clean up from the fibre and cable companies in high density urban deployments.  Virtually no interference and an AP every ~500m.

Yes. This is a good frequency for microcells. CPE Mounting is more complicated as it does not forgive misalignment.

If MT makes a CPE, let's hope they put a SFP+ port on it. It would also be nice to have a high power gigabit POE in and two POE out gigabit ports. We could use the POE for cameras or two more radios for a daisy chain and relay.

It looks like the fcc may be opening up another 7GHz of spectrum so the 60GHz band is about to get busy.

i guess it happen in age of 802.11ax adoption, which among other improvements - converge 60Ghz within it.
past-AX tech will borrow UWB tech from both bands, likely.

Yes. But this is a whole different thing. These Lasers need extreme good and stable mounting and they are sensible to fog and dust.

So yes. There are applications but very rare. I've seen unused links as the owner seized to use them due to problems.

Normis informed us, that Mikrotik ist investing the implementation von 802.11ad cards to Mikrotik since 2013. Nothing changed since this. I am a constumer since 1997, our whole WISP system and our whole data center is using Mikrotik Hardware. But If Mikrotik will not change something in inplementing new and needed drivers, we have to leave Mikrotik. I am very upset, about this. If a Wisp is using Ubiquiti, you have 24 Ghz, 11 Ghz, 3 Ghz, 2.4 Ghz, 5.4 Ghz and much more possibilities. Mikrotik is bringing nothing for WISP's anymore.

So my last question about this, will there be a solution for 60 Ghz, Wigig, 802.11ad? Please Normis inform us.

Doing the whole network with one vendor is not a good idea. No vendor is best with all equipment. As you noticed MT falls back on wireless. Not every new vendor is as good as he claims. Ignite 60 GHZ is a big fail. Quite unstable. They have to replace a lot of their units. Mimosa does not get their SW done. ... So select cairfully and test a lot ...
