Issue with client Intel 3945abg

Mon May 08, 2006 10:57 pm

Hi,

There seem to be some kind of incompatebility with Intel Express PRO/Wireless 3945ABG and Atheros AR5213. I've got the later in my MT running as Wireless AP and the first on a client PC and the client simply doesn't see the AP at all. I've tried with all kinds of crypto, and without, on the AP but no luck.

The AP it self works as it should with other wifi clients and the client works against other APs so the issue seem to be between Aheros and Intel.. somehow.

If I run the wireless packet sniffer I see probes from the Intel card.

Is this a known issue ?
Anyone else able to verify this ?

Regards,
Paddy

Same problem with Intel "centrino" laptop, does not see AP if in "b/g" mode, but sees it if AP in "b-only" mode.
Also sometimes have problems with some PDAs not seeing the AP at all.

Would be nice to know the solutions. In a hotspot environment, we need best intercompatibility with "brand X" devices.

Regards

Same issue here. We are using a RouterBoard 532a and an Atheros AR5213 wireless card (b/g, no a). The the wireless card for this laptop is the only one which will not work on our Routerboard AP. We have 5 other computers using it with no issues. And the Intel Pro 3945ABG will accociate with any other access point.

MikroTik, what's the problem here?!

We have a new laptop Vaio SZ 18GP with same card. Doesn't see the APs. The APs are open access - we have a hotspot network so no encryption, no nothing.

Happening on HP Notebook with same wireless card. Its an ISSUE for us. All help appreciated.

Both have the latest 10.1.1.3 drivers from Intel - we've tried two Sony releases of drivers plus the latest Intel driver - all of them don't see the Mikrotik AP. However my older Sony with the Intel Pro(R)/Wireless 2200BG works fine.

No ideas yet? I found this today, not this issue but possibly related?

Glad to see that work is happening on this.

Just a quick note, I personally saw this on an HP laptop, so while it may be just the chipset mentioned, that chipset is in more laptops and growing. Seems all the new "Core duo/single" laptops are using this intel chipset.

Thanks for the update. Please keep us informed.

We've also seen the same behaviour from an HP Notebook with the Intel 3945ABG.

Is there an ETA for the new release yet?

This is costing us huge in lost revenue, bad customer image and tech support in our hotspots. How do we tell potential customers that their PC is too new and we cannot support them? We look like idiots. With summer season practically here, I can't even guess at how large an impact this is having.

Please, we are dying here!!!

Confirmed fix

I can confirm that 2.9.25 fixes the problem with the Intel 3945abg and the Atheros AR5213 chipset. All is well again. Thanks Mikrotik.

 doesn't work for me with Intel 3945abg and Atheros AR5213.

The testing laptop is a HP nx9420 with the Intel 3945abg card builtin.
The MT is in ap-bridge mode.

Do I need to do something special with the config or something ?

I was set to 2.4Ghz-B/G, no Nstreme, no compression, preamble both, no wds, ap-bridge mode, no encryption.

Finally got it working!

I got it working after setting the new setting
"Proprietary Extenstions" to "Post-2.9.25" insted of the default "Pre-2.9.25".

From where the setting is in the GUI I can't understand why this makes any difference at all, but it does!

I got three different AP(two VirtualAPs) and I tried having them in different settings and always when I switched from pre-2.9.25 to post- it shows up in my intel card and after switching from post to pre it dissapears!

Well.. anyhow.. it works now and that is all good!

Thanks MikroTik!

I can confirm that it works with 2.9.25 with the post-2.9.25 setting.. Compaq hp8440 with intel 3945abg.

It was funny fighting all day with this issue on a holiday, next to the hotspot antenna and not able to connect.
