About upgrading CCR to v6.3

Wed Sep 11, 2013 10:05 am

Hi,

Please give me a helping hand in this. I really tried to google these topics, but all MikroTik wikis are focused on successfull operation and dont have infromation about what to do in emergencies/failures.

However, could you please advise me where can I find information about failed upgrades? I mean flashing through ethernet or anything that can be used in emergency.
Im quite concerned about upgrading and affraid if anything goes wrong.

Will upgrade delete my current config?
If yes, which is better? Using backup/save or export?
Will backing up interfere with the operation of the router or is it fully available throughout the backup process?

v6.4 has it fixed, release this week.
A new release in 10 days?
I feel happy that I havent yet upgraded to 6.3....

Thank you in advance!

Hi Semir,

do Upgrades only if there is a need to do. As you've seen there are a lot of releases so installing every release is work and may introduce a problem. (6.3 on CCR is worth the upgrade).
Normaly your config is there after upgrade (unless there is a problem).

Do backup with export compact. This gives a good readable config which you
can apply in a terminal with copy/paste. If routers/releases are different there might be
syntax/numbering changes you have to take care of. If you dont use "compact" take care of
MAC-Addresses. You dont want to change MAC Adresses.

The backup process does not disturb operation.

Thank you very much :)
Lot of releases: yeah, I got that.
Also according to change log and comments 6.3 worth it, but I'll wait for 6.4 then.

Im still conerned about upgrade problems.
Where can I find information about flashing or anything that helps the recovery?
