Install on server using LSI1064e

Sun Sep 22, 2013 4:53 am

I've read a few posts about people successfully installing RouterOS on an x86 with the LSI1064e controller. I haven't been able to get the install to work.

My objective is to install RouterOS on the machine and use it to run many virtualized routers. We do it today with KVM but that is a one-off and since MikroTik doesn't support Hyper-V, we're trying to find an alternative.

I've tried using netinstall with two drives as RAID 1 on the LSI1064e with no luck (install CD reports no drives) and with the drives configured without RAID (still install CD reports no drives).

I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions? Or will this just not work?

The server is an IBM x3250 M3 which uses UEFI.

Thanks for any suggestions...

Here is some testing that I've done:

1. Tried installing from Netinstall CD with RAID enabled on LSI1064e. CD does not see any drives.
2. Tried installing from Netinstall CD without RAID (drives appear as standard SATA drives). CD does not see any drives.
3. Ran Netinstall on a Windows 7 PC and installed 5.26 with the drive (non-RAID, SATA 500GB) as a secondary drive in Windows 7. Install on drive reports as succeeded. Booting in server reports "Boot failed" both in UEFI and Legacy boot modes.
4. Did the same as #3 with 6.4 instead of 5.26 and received the same failure.

Is there a reason that 5.26 doesn't see SATA drives? Or is this a specific issue with the drivers in the MikroTik kernel?

I mis-typed. On options 1 and 2, the CD was the INSTALL CD, not netinstall. That means it was the ISO downloaded from the MikroTik web site.
