Re: Feature Request: Encrypted (secret) L2tp Client

I had a mail from them saying that they will put it on a future release, but as of yest nothing, i see this feature request has been around for a long time, Im not using as much Mikrotik devices anymore as they do not conform. I'm starting have a pile of death here for them, and at a stage i believe they were the best thing since sliced bread.

The routers i used to do the ADSL i had to replace and the new routers support the l2tp vpn way of assigning static IP's, with the mikrotik not being dialer and the the other router supporting adsl, sec l2vpn, i've just not been bothered to sell more Tiks as part of the solution.

Its up to them, not sure what they are playing with, but anything that has a reasonable functionality problem in, aka not the complete implementation of said function, that is becoming an more and more required feature for our market, esp since the static ip in that gets allocated is helpful for voip and other services that work with static ips.

Its is purely a case of what i find important they might not. I'm just 1 person that uses their product, install, maintains and through my efforts sell their product.

Its like the ADSL module debate/port/add on.

Anyway, don't hold your breath for this fix/addition, If they wanted to surely the would of already.

Thanks for the reply.

What equipment are you using other than MikroTik?

Since this is not a standard (if it is, let us know which), it seems your ISP is pushing for a specific brand product. I would object to this.

They Use Juniper i think, I did email support about this about,

http://forum.mikrotik.com/viewtopic.php ... 30#p386730

Is the same request, I think this is also from south-africa looking at the thread,

If you need additional information then i can provide you with everything you need, supouts, remote access to an unit connected to the infrastructure that can allow you to test.

here is my ticket for this request Re: [Ticket#2013091666000226] Your static IP address has been allocated.

Isn't it this - http://tools.ietf.org/search/rfc2661#section-5.1.1?

I believe it is exactly what you found.

on the following posts a Mikrotik Support - MrZ stated

RouterOS does not support tunnel password which is used for LAC/LNS.

http://forum.mikrotik.com/viewtopic.php ... 36#p386736

in the v5.07 release notes it did hint that it is already supported.

What's new in 5.7 (2011-Sep-14 10:54):

*) ipsec - new exchange mode (main-l2tp) for l2tp tunnel users to allow
FQDN as a peer ID with preshared key authorization in main mode;

But haven't as yet been able to see how to set that up, or if that even hints at the same thing,

[flash=]Would make my life so much easier if i could implement this.[/flash]

That's a pre-shared key for IPsec - L2TP is just a wrapper in this case.
