How can I make use of my CPU with Routerboard 750GL

Tue Oct 22, 2013 3:59 pm

I have Routerboard 750GL and RouterOS in it. Right now I use Winbox from my local windows system to configure RouterOS.

I have a CPU of 256mb ram, 80gb harddisk and pentium 4 processor.

I want to use this CPU to configure routerboard's RouterOS. but I don't know how to merge it.

One way I know is install ubuntu server in my CPU and install wine to use winbox for RouterOS configuration.

what are the other ways to make use of my CPU with Router?

Like in your earlier posts you just do not get it.

Routeros is the operating system. It can run on pc hardware or routerboard hardware.
Eitherway the system needs to be configured. This can be done on various ways like telnet, ssh or winbox.
You can not use routeros to configure another routeros installation.

Ok now am going to take off Routerboard 750GL, then I'll have only system with pc installed routerOS. Now what should I do to make my system as router, what should I connect to my system to have port1-input(Internet connection from ISP), port2- output(Connection to our LAN).

I assume your PC is equipped with 2 ethernet interfaces.
If you've installed RouterOS on your PC, connect your ISP delivered internet to 1 interface and connect a local LAN switch to the second port. The configuration of RouterOS is the same as with the RouterBoard. The only difference is that you have to have a PC to connect to the RouterBoard and since you are using a PC (which I assume is equipped with a keyboard and monitor) you can configure it via the console.
