ADSL modem recommendations

Thu Nov 21, 2013 4:51 pm

We'd like to replace our ADSL modem/router combo with a Mikrotik router + ADSL modem. I know that Mikrotik doesn't have any hardware with ADSL support and I already saw this thread about ADSL modems: http://forum.mikrotik.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=66309

I know that ADSL is poor man's internet in most of the world, but here in Australia it's all we've got, unless you have serious money to pay for fibre to be run to your office. Our current modem syncs at around 18000/1000 kbps, but with only a 5 dB link margin. There doesn't seem to be any way to make it sync slower for a better link margin, and there are absolutely no statistics on frame loss, checksum errors, discards etc over the ADSL link.

Can anyone recommend an ADSL modem with some or all of the following features:
- ADSL2+ support
- ADSL sync speed configurable
- Shows signal to noise ratio, line attenuation etc
- Gives statistics on frame loss / checksum mismatches at the AAL5/ATM level
- Gives statistics on discards due to buffer overflow etc
- Preferably has a CLI interface as well as web interface for configuring and monitoring

We succesfully use Draytek A120 for these situations.
Put the A120 in bridge mode and the Mikrotik will get the WAN IP, on either DHCP Client/fixed IP/PPPoE.

Or the new A130. This one is also VDSL compatible.

I'm using old Cisco 877 in bridge mode for monitoring SNR, Line Attenuation, Output Power and Line Activations with SNMP.
