2 Networks on 1 Interface

Tue Nov 26, 2013 6:48 pm

Hi Guys,

I am currently using default static route from my upstream provider on the 'ether1' interface, with the 1st network being advertised currently on the AS.

Example:
1st Network - ether1 - 66.123.1.0/22 (Router IP: 66.123.1.1)
2nd Network - ??? - 66.188.1.0/22

The 'ether2' port is currently connected to a network switch, where different servers are connected with IPs from the 1st network (66.123.1.0/22).

I am adding a new 2nd network (66.188.1.0/22) to the router, can I do the same and assign the new network to ether2 with the same switch? Or do I have to assign it on ether3 that is connected to a new VLAN or a new switch?

What would be ideal and recommended?

Thank you.

As long as both networks route to the same provider you can assign your LAN gateway address with both IP's on eth2. I don't know if having 2,000 IP's in the same broadcast domain will be a problem but what you're proposing will work.
