CRS125 vlan best practice

Mon Dec 02, 2013 7:00 pm

As this new box has a significantly changed switch menu (in winbox) I suppose there might be some changes to best practice for configuring wlan.

What will be the best configuration in the following scenario:
CRS125 setup:
ether1: gateway, dhcp client
ether2: private network, dhcp server
ether3-19: slave of ether2
ether20: guest network, dhcp server
ether21-23: slave of ether20
ether24: Trunk to another switch: vlan-private + vlan-guest

Whats the best way to make ether24 function as expected?

The easy way would be to create bridge-private (members: ether2 + vlan-private) and bridge-guest (members: ether20 + vlan-guest), where both vlans are created on interface ether24.
This config works, but performance won't be any good.

Another option is the example shown at
http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:CR ... Based_VLAN
But when I try this example, I can't figure how to make whatever is connected on any of the ports communicate with the "routing part" of the CRS. How do you combine this setup with routing?

Are there any better ways (switching throughput) to achieve the config sketched in the beginning of this post?

Interested in this as well. The documentation in the crs is a bit sparse... But also note that the full feature set isn't implemented yet.
