HostSpot: Lock account to MAC

Mon Dec 02, 2013 6:41 pm

Hi guys

Sorry for starting a new threat, but I couldn't find my answer in the other threats.

In the last few years I've done plenty of HotSpots, so I'm not a nub' at all, but I ran into a issue which I can't seem to resolve myself.

To sum up the situation: I installed a MT Hotspot solution (which auths against my RADIUS server) because the client's son abuses the internet. I gave them all 2GB bandwidth, and now that the son's bandwidth is capped he is using his parents' accounts.

Is there any way to LOCK the son so only HIS account will work on HIS MAC?

Thanks for the feedback! G

Looking for the same features (almost)

On my setup we have free accounts , that users has to signup to , we give them IE 50Mb upload and download limit, When the limit is reached the are asked to log in again , but they also have the signup option , so they can actually just signup with another username and then get the free package.

I know that the trial user account function block the users from "get" another free trial as it authenticate the users with their mac address, but this will not be enough for us. We need the signup process , and we don´t want the users to signup with their mac address.

I can bind the mac address to the user account in user-manager so that the user cannot login from other mac addresses but i cannot prevent users to have a "shared" mac address.

Any idea on how to solve this will be appreciated..

I Guess a script that could find the user profiles that have the Same mac adress and then deleted/suspended them would work for me

Hi everyone, thanks for all the ideas.

I was hoping for a more "out of the box" solution, but I think a script would be the way to go. I don't have much time right now, but I'll start scripting and share my script here. Please give me a week or so.

Thanks a stack! G

Use mac authentication for everybody
That won't do me any good as the "hacker" (abuser) is a valid user and his MAC needs to be authenticated in any case. The problem is that he is using one of his other family members' accounts when he gets capped.

My only solution (unless Mikrotik adds a feature like this which I don't see happening in the near future due to demand) is to write a script.
