how do you set rate limits for hotspot users with radius

I want to set up a hotspot where the user database is held in radius. I want to be able to set users to auto login with mac auth. and also to set their rate-limit with bursting.

Can somebody point me in the right direction?

Thanks,

Alex

Read Mikrotik's docs regarding radius and hotspot. I have similar setup and it works.

Hi there.

Thank you for taking the time to reply.

The RouterOS manual is excellent for detail, but unfortunately is seriously lacking on the general application usage of the system.

I have already found myself down one path in the many ways to achieve something with RouterOS, and now have a working system with customers (all be it few).

I am getting a little tired of being told to RTFM, as I am getting close to being able to recite it verbatim.

So, kindly I wonder if you might help me at least get started with the concepts behind this? And if you felt generous, perhaps to share your configs.

Talk to me offline on alex@rhys-hurn.com and there might be a deal in it for you!

You can set rate limits by using the "Rate-Limit" attribute within radius. for example; if you want your users to have a limit of 350kbps download / 256kbps upload with bursts up to 512kbps and a burst threshhold of of 400kbps over a 5 second interval your radius attribute would look like this:

Rate-Limit=350k/256k 512k/512k 400k/400k 5/5;

You also need to make sure that your radius library file has the "Rate-Limit" attribute defined.
