Synchronous Serial Hardware

Tue Jun 20, 2006 8:31 pm

Is there an up-to-date list of supported hardware for synchronous serial applications such as frame relay?

I have searched the forum, the manual, and the web, but I can only find references to rare or obsolete hardware. If anyone has recent experience of a PCI or mini-PCI serial adapter I would really appreciate hearing from you.

Thanks Eugene,

I'm not using any routers with PMC slots. Do you have a list of supported adapters or chip sets?

In particular I am interested in PCI or mini-PCI format cards.

I had this in mind but forgot to mention that these cards come with PMC-to-PCI adapter.

Is that the only currently available adapter that RouterOS supports?

Thank you for the list. These cards don't appear to be currently available:

Moxa C502 PCI 2-port V.35 (8 Mbit/s)
Cyclades PCI PC-300 V.35 (5 Mbit/s)
Cyclades PCI PC-300 E1/T1
Sangoma S5141 (dual-port) and S5142 (quad-port) PCI RS232/V.35/X.21 (4Mbit/s - primary port and 512Kbit/s - secondary ones)
Sangoma S5148 (single-port) and S5147 (dual-port) PCI E1/T1

Which leaves these as possibilities:

FarSync PCI V.35/X.21 (8.448 Mbit/s)
LMC/SBEI wanPCI-1T1E1 PCI T1/E1 (also known as DS1 or LMC1200P, 1.544 Mbit/s or 2.048 Mbit/s)
LMC/SBEI wanPCI-1T3 PCI T3 (also known as DS3, 44.736Mbit/s)

You really should update your manual and your tech support people if the wanPMC products are supported. I e-mailed about this only last month and was told support for wanPMC products would not be added until 2.10. While it's great to find out that wanPMC support is in there now, the confusion is quiet frustrating!

Does anyone know where WAN PCI cards can be purchased at a reasonable price?

I just bought a WanPMC w/ the PCI adapter. It has been working fine for almost a week now. The only comment I would like to make is that there is no facility for troubleshooting/testing circuit state. Better status reporting and testing would defiantly be on my wish list. MikroTik does not report throughput stats or anything other then up/down for this card.

My understanding is that SBE discontinued the PCI cards and now, only makes the PMC version. However this is the same card just a different form factor.

The price is not cheap!

you can buy the WanPMC at: http://www.ncomm.com/

Ncomm develops software and drivers for this type of network interface but they are also resellers:

See product page here: http://www.ncomm.com/new_site/main/tms_t3e3.htm
