RB2011LS Issues

Thu Mar 13, 2014 12:36 pm

Not sure if I have this in the right section but here it goes.

I recently installed an RB2011LS at one of our tower sites, not the first time we've done this, but I've been having all sorts of issues since we've installed it. Last two nights I've had to go out onsite in the middle of the night to get things back up and running. Tonight I got an alarm that the switch was unreachable and several sectors as well. When I got on site I was able to connect to a radio and actually login to the switch from there. I have all the ports in bridge1 and have them all switched, what I noticed was that ports 5-10 were all Radios/Devices that reported unreachable, while ports 3 & 4 those radios never reported down. Ports 5-10 report they are on switch 1 while ports 1-5 are switch 0 as I'm sure your all aware. Port 1 connects to the main switch at the site and all ports reported they were on and working, bridge was on and working but no connection to the main switch. The logs showed no activity pointing to a problem in fact the last entry was from me logging into the switch hours and hours before the outage. Since I was logged into the switch I went ahead and just rebooted the switch, once it rebooted everything came up, all radios and switch reported reachable and normalcy was restored.

As I said we're running this exact same setup at several of our tower sites, Cisco2950 at the base of the tower and RB2011's in an enclosure on the tower. This is the first time I've come across so many issues, but whats worse is that I have no idea what went wrong. We will be installing an RPC in that enclosure so in theory if we still had one up there I would have been able to cycle power to the RB2011 but I still don't see that as a solution. I made a supout file if anyone can help me out with it I would greatly appreciate it, these issues and lack of sleep are not deterring my love for Mikrotik and its products I would just like to get to the bottom of this and try to get a decent nights sleep and I would hate to go back to a Cisco2950 in that enclosure.

RB2011 is running 5.24

I hope I have given enough information but please feel free to ask me to clarify anything, thank you in advance.

Re: RB2011LS Issues

I have to correct myself from earlier this morning, the AP's plugged into ports 4 & 5 were reporting up and I was even able to communicate with them and customers connected to those AP's. All AP's and devices plugged into ports 6-10 were I was not able to communicate through the switch even though the switch was reporting those interfaces were up and running and again the log did not show any ports going up and down.

Has anyone else seen these issues before?? I might be sending up a different RB2011 that is wiped clean and has a fresh config on it but I would greatly appreciate any help on this because I cannot come up with a reason this happened other than hardware/software failure on the RB2011's part.

Ok so it happened again, this time I connected to an AP that reported it was up, I was able to pull an IP address and get online, went to several websites without a problem. When I gave myself an IP address that is whitelisted to connect to my switch I was unable to connect to it. However, when I connect to a sector that was reported down and gave myself that ip address I am able to login to the switch and tell it to reboot, makes no sense to me. I am going to schedule it to reboot every 6hrs see if that will be a stop gap til I can get someone up there to swap everything out.

Well shortly after my last post it went down again, decided to get a climber up there to swap the RB2011 out, since then I have yet to have any problems. Knock on wood, I think something was just not working properly with that RB2011 that went up the first time, we'll see.
