I have a RB230 that has 2 CM9s in it running 2 long range (15miles) connection and pushing about 6 megs average from the ethernet port.. cause it is connected to our internet feed
My CPU is running around 90%
when I look at the specs on the RB532, I see it is still a 266 cpu. If I switch to a RB532 will I expect to see the CPU go down? Or do I need to go with a 1gig mini-itx?
or maybe running at 90% is normal and ok.. but I dont think so.
6 Mbps at 90% ? Alot of packets per second i assume?
I'm pretty sure you can get a bit more out of that unit but also i'm also pretty sure you have some problems in the network that cause that many packets...
Regarding topic (cpus). It is my uneducated opinion that RB230's cpu is "stronger" and even faster but it's bus/memory arch is one generation older than the RB500's. e.g. SDRAM vs DDR SDRAM.
The performance increase might not be that noticable with that many packets/second...

I would probably go with the mini-itx system. With that many packets / second you might want to run nstreme any all.it is carrying about 400 clients, on 25 nodes.. this AP is at the front of the line, on top of the building that has our internet feed , so yea lots of packets.
so I get the feeling that I should go with a 1gig mini-itx
if ur running nstream on the rb230 that is where ur huge cpu usage is coming (that Plus the high number of packets).
on other thing to remember is that you can overclock the rb532 to 333mhz as im doing on 4 of them...with no issues/problems.
what are the results of a bandwidth test (perferably when there is no "other" traffic)

Hi Cmit, thank for your answer, but here in Argentina have a people selling a Mikrotik Solution with theses boards, look this page with my questions and answers down...Those are based on XScale CPUs, which are not currently supported by MikroTik. And every question if those will be supported, was a clear "no" so far...

sorry, but I REALLY cannot imagine that this is correct. I read the page you quoted (in broken-Google-english ), and it really references this Gateworks product. But this REALLY is based on a XScale CPU, and I am very sure that there is NO XScale version of MikroTik.
Perhaps someone from MikroTik could clarify this quickly?
