RouterOS upgrade oddness

Mon Apr 28, 2014 2:27 pm

I can ping upgrade.mikrotik.com from my RB750GL, but when checking for updates in System>Packages, it throws an error saying could not resolve upgrade.mikrotik.com.

Also, given that I am running Winbox in Wine on Mac, what is the best way to get the router up to the latest version of the OS? Am assuming that 6.12 is that version?

Thanks

Hi
There are many ways for upgrade
1)you can download upgrade file 6.12 and upload it to your ftp server and then reboot your router
2)you can download upgrade file 6.12 and drag it to files in router
3)From quick set click on check for update

I can ping the url if that's what you mean - it resolves correctly.

You have supposingly 5x version. You have to copy package files to router manually and reboot.

I've noticed the same thing... When you upgrade to a major RouterOS version, you'll have to do it manually. I guess it makes sense...

I'm a little late to this conversation but I have the same issue. Thing is, I was able to do this just fine on three RB2011Ls and a RB1200 but encountered this problem with a RB450. All of the routers started with the same OS version, 5.25. Maybe someone will see this and be able to figure something out, going to try a manual copy now.

Edit: forgot to include the fact that I also tried to ping to several URLs and was able to resolve everything just fine in the ping tool, upgrade.mikrotik.com included. DNS is also set up with Open DNS and Google.
