How to weed out bad board?

Fri May 09, 2014 10:15 am

I have a RB711 AP Bridge and Station. One of them is bad!

Looking at the AP Bridge Boards Registration/Signal Tab I can see the Station at -30s
Looking at the Stations Boards Registration/Signal Tab, I can see the AP Bridge at -89

I have both connected to a 24Dbi parabollic dish.

Question, Should I be able to talk threw both radios with no dish connected? just stacked or side by side on computer table????

Fact! I had the AP Station upon tower 50' up. I was 50' away on ground. Everything in tact! I was able to gain a connection after over an hour of learning what to do, and the connection promised only .3megs to the Station when it was 6 to 18 megs on the AP Bridge.

I was not satisfied!

Which board is bad???????????????? I am really clueless.

do you have a possibility to repalce one of the board to see if the situation is the same? As it is hard to tell where could be the problem - the TX on the one end or the RX on the other end.

Re: How to weed out bad board? RB711 2hn

Thank you for your reply, And No I don't. I'm new to this and I only have those 2 boards.

The AP Bridge has 4 chains I think, I assume thats the 2 Brass Miniature antenna connectors.
My Station Has 2 chains I think, just one Brass connector for Parabolic Dish.

I am Not wanting to switch to another Product after spending 4 days of ("Hacking") / ("Script Kiddie") the Mikro-tik OS.
I am A X Atmel Programmer in Assembly Language, A X in Visual Basic, and an X in programming Smartcards (all kinds). This is all New to me. I like it, But my time has become more limited , (Self employed and broke lol)!

I'm under the impression I did something wrong.. I explained this problem to my friend which given me 2 parabolic dishes, he stated it sounded like to him it was the styrophome inside the dish ends. So I disassembled one and ruined it to see what was in the ends of these 23dbi parabolic dishes. It is a PCBoard,, like a tuning fork that makes a Air Capacitor in-cased in the hollow plastic. It can't go bad! If there's a rare case of moisture a heat gun or the sun would fix that rather quickly. The N Type Connector or Cable would Fail before the Dish end would. So the Connections areas and Cable health is my main interest on those.

Mind Ease Space.

If the Radios work on table, and I can surf web On Table Threw Radios, Does this mean I can Run a 50' Test of everything intact and aslo surf? Which I did do!!!! But the Client was at poor data speeds that could surf but just poor. somewhere the signal is poor.

when you look at the registration tabs under signals, you can see one is way more powerful than the other.

QUESTION, does anyone here want to sell me one of their clients or AP for a resonable price? also, what all I use thats compatible on ebay, any suggestions on what I can buy? I am on a budget and the prices are ok for this stuff, it could be better. I can get a client for around 40, or should I just forget clients and get all Level 4 license? Think I got that right. Someone help me here I am new and Dont know what to do LOL.

Ima gonna buy something. Probably go all in with 2 more boards just to see which one I have thats bad, then i'll know. Sad thing is my friend could check them for me and tell me, but he doesn't have the time as he runs his on internet company.

He told me he would sell me what I needed and I wouldn't have to program anything at all, just connect them up as long as it was line of sight over the 1 mile i'm going. WONDER what that was He was going to sell me that needed no programming?

(I have 2 Nice Towers for point to point. Self installed.) 80' Overkill and 45' los!

Thank you so much for your reply.

Brian.

How stupid? I just realized if I buy a high level license board then It would work with something I have right? one or the other! Wouldn't that be a solution?

Too much words saying so few information. It is very hard to give you other suggestion than you'd better to ask real specialist to have a look at your problem personally on site.

Generally the difference between L3 and L4 is that to L4 you can make many simultaneous connections (ap mode) but to L3 only one ( client or ptp link).

Signal should be received at around -60. When you have -30 it is too strong and -89 too weak. Could be problem with pigtails or radios.

Too strong received signal should be attenuated on tx side of the link.

Well Now I'm not so sure guys. I put the parabolic on the antenna and walked away with laptop in hands, I get nothing! All chains are checked. IT only works on the desk of the Top cover of box is taken off Radio. If I put the Box together I drop a bar. Its like the antenna is doing nothing. Maybe this board was the problem?

IS THERE SOMETHING I MAY HAVE SET WRONG? NEWBIE HERE

Ok, if I enclose it i loose signal from my laptop to routerboard. its like the antenna does not work. any help? bad setting somewhere? again all chains checked.

It wouldn't work with the top screwed on. So I was playing around like an idiot with my fingers and I got full signal. After about an hour I learned that If I turned Chain 0 OFF and Chaing 1 ON then clamp the connector to chain 1 not chain 2 then the signal was 100 percent!

YES, is it possible a chain has went out????

I have it working now, yaay. It was a bad chain on 0.

As I told: problem with radio. Amplifier could be broken. Especially if the transmitting was swithed on with high power set and without antenna attached.

Well, i'm now at my second location! Yaaaay! But, I test my signals without a antenna connected, how else do you do that on a desk? I honestly dont know, and it is the only way I know how to learn and test. I really dont want to be sandwiched between 2 microwave ovens LOL.

I now have 2 Level 4's on the way, guess I'll use those for backups in case of lightning storm.

BTW, is there not a way to reset these things on the ground???
