Routerboard 750UP POE control

Wed May 07, 2014 3:04 am

Hi,

we are evaluating the possibility to use the Routerboard 750UP for supplying multiple access points with power.
The device is required to run OLSRD within our network. Thus we will need to flash openwrt onto the RB750UP. Everything seems to be fine and easy.
The only problem is the control of the POE ports.
Could you tell us how we can get and set the power state of the POE ports?
(probably via a GPIO?)

Thank you!
Lars

unfortunately i cannot disclose any information regarding that.

as a small workaround - install latest RouterOS, set to poe-out configuration, install os of your choice. At least PoE-out will work.

Just use a soldering iron .... works better than mikrotiks poe out that is not working at all ...

We need to change the POE state of single ports remotely. This is (still) quite hard with a soldering iron :)
btw: Did you stumble upon any specific problems with the POE delivery of RB750UP boards?

@janisk: thank you for your quick reply!

Maybe there is a misunderstanding. I did not ask for code or internal implementation details. I would just like to know which peripheral is responsible for toggling the POE state.

Even openwrt users are your customers. Thus I cannot grasp the intention of your answer. Could you please explicate it?
Or maybe I just phrased my questions in a misleading way?

This would be an interesting one-time approach - but we need control in live systems. Thank you for your suggestion anyway.

cheers,
Lars

well we use Ubiquity for links, and until now all our tests failed.
the RB951 is also less sensitive than a omnitik when it comes to powering devices.

We never need to cycle power, we do this at the moment only for the unify

for powering a 48V unify i made the "RB951UI Super POE"

Could you please elaborate what exactly fails?
(regarding the POE supply of RB 750UP)
