Sierra Wireless LTE mini-pci-e

Thu Oct 25, 2012 12:02 am

What's everyones take on mini pci-e devices for 3g/4g-LTE connectivity?

We're considering the Sierra Wireless MC7750 for use with Verizon in the US, and I'm wondering if anyone has tried it or has any feedback regarding those devices in general. Looking at using it with a RB411U (No, I'm not expecting 100mbit throughput)

If I understand correctly then that Sierra wireless card for Verizon doesn't use the Direct-IP firmware and you will not be able to use LTE interface. Most likely you will be able to use the PPP style connection but with that you might not get the max speed.

I am also in this particular boat. I have already aquired a lot of 10 MC7750s, and am completely dedicated to making them work in MT ROS. I have made the 7700 work fine and as-advertised, hopefully I can do the same here.

What can I do to get this moving forward a little? Shall I send a support file to MT?

Thanks!

Our understanding after doing some development work with these was that Verizon has to certify not only the card that is used as well as the router (like a cradlepoint router/modem combo) This is costly and although you could probably get a few of these up on their network, you might risk getting booted of they discover a non-certified solution. Certainly not something to risk if you want to use them at scale.

If anyone else has insight into making this work, it would be very helpful....
