How does the web proxy authentication work?

Fri May 30, 2014 4:12 pm

Hello

I am pretty new to Mikrotik, my company uses it and we were given a project where we were to use the mikrotik router between a client ( a computer running win7) and a server ( running win server 2008) we also had Radius running on Active directory which was configured on on win 2008. The client had to authenticate with the radius and use the web proxy to get to the internet. We configured a hotspot which requested for the login and password of the user which registered itself with the radius and it got onto the internet. However! we wanted to allow some users to go onto facebook and others to be denied access, here we had some trouble and we were wondering fi the community could help us.

We wanted to know if we need an external webproxy, or is the webproxy on mikrotik enough?

The webproxy setting on the mikrotik is it used when one configured the mikrotik as a router/radius?

I have gone through thte documentation however I can't get past these problems.

thanks.

It can be used in conjunction with the hotspot function. It is configured in the server profile of the hotspot to use the proxy. You can set individual user accounts to use different profiles that allow certain access.

Hello , thanks for answering,
We did not use the profiles we created on the mikrotik equipment but used the accounts we created in the active directory to authenticate with the radius.

However we were wondering if we could use the web proxy configuration on the router to access the internet or do we need an external proxy server?
