Mikrotik Transceiver with HP switch

Wed Jun 04, 2014 8:27 pm

I have an HP procurve PoE switch that I am using for a wireless array and I am using a fiber uplink.

I purchased a singlemode Transceiver in hopes I could use it with both the CCR I have on the other end and the switch.

The switch is reporting that the transceiver in unsupported.

Has any experience this and know how to over come it?

Thanks

Hello,
Has any experience this and know how to over come it?
Use a MikroTik SFP modul on the MikroTik side and a HP SFP modul on the HP side!
They only must be matching the same jacks like LC on both ends and the supporting
the same standards such as 1000BASE-SX

Netgear Switch: 1000BASE-SX on MMF 50 µm: 550 m
MikroTik Router: S-85DLC05D
Cable LC-LC 850 nm wavelength OM3 / 2 meters

Then you can be pretty sure that the SFP modules would be recognized
on both sites.

Ok disabling the auto-negotiation must be done on both sides.
But it is working now and liquid running at 1 GBit/s or 1.25 GBit/s

Make sure your HP has current firmware. I don't use the ProCurve, but I know the 1810 and 1910 switches support any generic SFP.

What if I got the S-31DLC20D. What SFP for HP would work with that? I cant really find any that are single mode LC at 1310nm

Hello again,

in normal terms and conditions you go in this cases backwards
as I am doing it right until today also like this:
- How many meters or kilometres must be override?
(is telling you which SFP standard you nee)
- Then I have a look what kind of devices I own to do so
(is telling you the supported SFP modules)
- Then on each site I really look what kind of SFP modules are supported by this devices
(mzust match thre needed SFP standard to match the distance)
- And then I have to look for what kind of SFP standards this modules are supporting.
(starting with the side I really trust or I know it is worry free)

I have to override a really short distance or in other words I need a SFP patch cable
Both devices are supporting the 1000Base-SX standard
So my Netgear Switch is supporting an AGM731F
And the MikroTik is supporting the [http://www.mikrotik-shop.de/Interfaces/ ... 95e480aa8f S-85DLC05D]

Both have Dual LC connector
Both are supporting the 550 meters distance
Both are supporting 1.25G over Multi Mode, 850nm

Ok and now I know which creterias the cable must match!
MMF / OM3 / LC-LC / 50/125µm

Or in other words a 50/125µm laser-optimized OM3 multimode fiber cables with 850 nm wavelength
There fore my dealer was telling me first, the minimum length should not be under 2 meters
I was paying all in all something around ~180 € rounded up.
~20 € for the MikroTik SFP
~120 € for two Netgear SFP
~25 € for two LC-LC-MMF-OM3-50/125µm-850nm cable

How long should the distance be to override?
Which HP Procurve switch do you exactly own?
Which MikroTik RouterBoard do you own?
