Cannot 'talk' to New RB2011UiAS-2HnD-IN

Thu Jun 12, 2014 4:22 am

Howdy All,

I've just taken delivery of 2 RB2011UiAS-2HnD-IN units and am excited to start working with them. Unfortunatly, I cannot seem to find anyway "in" to the router.

According the quick start docs, I should be able to reach the router using a web browser at 192.168.88.1. When I try, the browser says it cannot connect.

I have my network cable plugged into port 2 and I can ping the router fine. I did a quick 'nmap' against it and ports 22, 111, 873 and 6566 are open. No web ports (80, 8080, 443, 8443, etc). I tried "winbox", but it appears it also tries to connect on port 80.

I tried to ssh (ssh admin@192.168.88.1) into the unit and get as far as a password prompt. Of course, the docs say the user name is 'admin' and there is no password, but SSH is requiring one (and press ENTER without a password doesn't work).

I have used the reset button to do a factory reset twice. I tried to use the little touch screen on top to do a reset, but it wants a PIN number and I have no idea what that could be?

The docs and quick start make this look simple and I'm stuck at "Go". As a network guy, it's a bit frustrating.

Any suggestions or help on how to get connected in and started?

Thanks, in advance!

What kind of ssh client do you use. I use putty and that accepts empty passwords.
I believe the default pin for the touch screen is '1234'

Now that's really odd.
Try a layer2 connect through winbox. (The [...] button next to the "Connect To" field.
There'll be a list populating. Now click on the MAC address of your 2011 and see if you can connect.

Good luck,

If the SSH is insisting there is a password, it is possible that somebody has set it, or that you are connecting somewhere else. Maybe IP conflict in network?

Howdy,

Tried the MAC version of a connect -- same problem. I'm 100% sure that there are no other devices on the network at 192.168.88.1 (my network isn a 192.168.100.x network, so I'm using an additional IP).

I'm definitely in contact with the unit as I can nmap it and ssh (at least initiate an ssh). I'm using linux as my primary system and the standard openssh client that comes with it (and I use ssh all day to connect to clients and other devices -- that is pretty much my entire work day).

I've done two factory resets on the unit, so I have to think if someone else did anything to it, that would long be gone now.

I did confirm that the touch screen PIN is 1234, so there is that ;-)

I seem to be having this same issue. I'm trying to set up an RB2011UiAS-iN, and suddenly I can't log into it.

I've logged into the board before, and changed some settings, no problem; everything was working fine.

It's now a different day- something seems to have gone wrong between when I last sat down and when I did today.
All ethernet port lights respond when plugged into another device, and the touchscreen controller is responsive. Winbox is able to detect the board, just not to login to it.

Using the built in touchscreen, I reset the router (the dedicated reset button didn't seem to work).

I've tried using the winbox mac address detection and login.
I've tried mac telnet.
I've tried netinstall.
