Metal 9HPn

Tue Jun 17, 2014 12:33 am

1. What is the frequency range
2. Which antenna is recomended
3. As per your spec sheet it is quoted as follows "Metal9HPn is compatible only with another Metal9HPn" Does this means that if I take routerboard with XR9 card...there will be no conection!
4. When are we going to see routerboard with 900mhz card integrated?

1. 902-927MHz (Selectable center frequencies 907 to 922)
2. Any 900MHz antenna that is designed for the above range
3. It will not work with XR9 just like it says
4. Isn't this it?
Is licensed only on US market...
Not sure about "only", but as with anything, use it according to local law and regulations.

Normis,

So not compatible with an RB411 using an XR9? Please say it isn't so. We have a number of 900 POP's using XR9's and Xagl cards.

Metal9HPn is compatible only with another Metal9HPn, and available only with US type power plug. It will not work with any other 900MHz manufacturer product.

Anyone got their hands on one yet?

If they have decent filtering on them, I may start pushing 900MHz in other locations.

I've got a Xagyl 900MHz right now, much better than the XR9, but it still has it's issues.

edit: I guess that could just be asked here of Mikrotik.

How is the out of band filtering? Decent amplifier? I'd love to get some more information.

I started another thread on this, but apparently I missed this one. Sadly, it doesn't seem there's an answer in either of them.

Does anyone know what channel widths are available on these, and how flexible the channel selection is? For example, it would be fantastic if we could do something like 921.6 as a center, with a 2mhz wide channel.

I found this, and it gets me closer to where I want to be. Maybe this will help me ask the question in the right way:

http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:Wi ... d_Channels

With the chipset in the Metal 9HPn (AR9283), what is the step, the width range, and the width step?

Wooohooo, they replied back to me. Here's the info so far, thanks to Kristaps:
Regarding metal 9 using Advanced Channels with metal you can use channel width
minimum 2.5mhz and steppings 0.5mhz

0 list=one name="ch1" frequency=913.5 width=2.5 band=2ghz-b/g/n
extension-channel=eC

but it will only connect to metal9 because how this product generates frequency.
I'm double checking on max channel width to make sure I have all the facts straight, but given the center ranges they gave, I'm guessing that it would probably be 10mhz.

Hello Normis ... wanted to know more about Metal 9HPn - MikroTik, I have much interest in using them in a project, and I think many Latinos to use this frequency range countries have to seek permission from the government ... but our interest is more in the use and range of channels to be used with the Metal 9HPn - MikroTik, also what kind of antenna recommended for better performance 9HPn Metal - MikroTik.
I will appreciate all the information.

Greetings ... Pedro Alejandro

MikroTik doesn't offer any 900MHz antennas, so any antenna that is designed for 902-927MHz will work just fine.

I realize I'm replying to an old thread, but I have not seen any more recent discussion of the issue.

I just wanted to say that we have 2 Metal-9HPn CPEs connecting to an RB411AH/XR9 AP, and it works just fine.

This is using NV2 on a 10MHz channel. I have not tried other configurations.

can anyone else confirm the XR9 or for that matter the SR9 working as an AP with 9HPn clients?

Yes the Metal 9HpN will work with XR9 Ubiquiti, You probably cant get the N speeds out of it because your limited to what the XR9 can do. I have only done limited tests not sure how well it will work, either way I am going to get more and do some more testing. Would like to move away from canopy to these and use H pol sectors to clean noise up.

I don't know why Normis says it isn't then.

I'd have been buying them for quite some time now if I knew it wasn't a complete platform change.

maybe mikrotik just doesn't want to deal with potential compatability issues...

We have metal 9 working successfully with ubiquiti m900 nanostation and rocket. This gives us a migration path from ubiquiti.

@mducharme how well is the m900 working for you compared to ubiquiti m900 radios? what antennas are you using? I could put these to use if they were decent.

We used 8dbi omni antennas with our rocket 900 units and were lucky to get 8 Mbps. Mikrotik gets a lower noise floor by 12 dB in the same environment, and seemingly over twice the throughput. Ubiquiti changed their rocket m900 antenna gain setting in newer firmware to a drop down list with 13 and 15dB the only options. Our signals were reduced significantly since it is an 8dbi omni at our sites. This combined with the fact that Ubiquiti seems to not care about the 900mhz space led us to migrate.

The coexistance requires the ubiquiti to be an access point with AirMax turned off. We have worked around this by using virtual station wds interfaces on the mikrotik ap side after reconfiguring customer m900 loco su's as ap's on the same frequency and channel size as the metal 9 AP. It is a bizarre workaround but it works.

I pulled all my ubiquiti 900Mhz gear out, so I'm not needing to integrate with them. m900 radios only passing 1-2Mbps when the math says it should do 12Mbps, and old old canopy gear is doing 6Mbps+. I have a few areas that are heavily treed. I can push m2 gear through but can't get above 1-2Mbps, 900Mhz should be able to do 2-3x that speed based on propagation through trees.

Yeah the m900 performance drops significantly esp with lots of customers. We have 25 customers on one overloaded AP and only getting 3.5Mbps throughput total. Pretty terrible... mikrotik seems much better.
