Hotspot issue

Tue Jul 18, 2006 1:02 am

I've setup a link on the hotspot login page to a secure page on my webserver. From there the users pay for service & get an account through my Radius server. I started having a problem with the secure page not loading recently. The users just get a "This Page cannot be displayed" message. When I reboot the MT it starts working again. I've set up both the IP and the URL in the Walled Garden with both ports 80 & 443. When this happens, the rest of the website that the secure registration page is on is still accessible except for any https pages. Anybody have any ideas as to what's going on?

On a somewhat related side note, is it possible to reboot just the hotspot service without rebooting the entire MT?

Oh, btw I'm using 2.9.27 & I noticed this happening as of 2.9.26 (I upgraded to 2.9.27 hoping it would fix this, but it didn't)

The link provided didn't have a solution, just a description of a similar problem.
I do not think its an MTU issue, I can access the secure page for a while, then something happens and it stops working. I then reboot the MT (withount making ANY configuration changes) & it works again. I think that if it was MTU settings then it would consistently not work. I also don't think its a HTTPS-Login issue for the same reason. I have a feeling it may be something within the transparent proxy that's causing this, but I've got no idea what.

Actually, I think I may be facing the same issue. I'm also using HTTPS and redirecting to an external server.

I thought it was just a wireless signal issue and it came good after rebooting the router. However now that you mention it - it could be what you describe.

How long does it take after reboot before it occurs?

Have you sent any supouts to MT yet? I'll have to wait until it occurs again.

Just had the issue with one site - it worked okay for about three weeks. Restarting the hotspot instance didn't work, had to reboot the router.

supout sent.

I have the same problem

Fri Sep 15, 2006 3:04 am

We have deployed hotspots on about 10 different RB532s and have experienced this problem on all of them at different intervals.

Our login.html page is served via https and has links to offsite images also served via https from a server listed in our walled garden.

When the problem occurs (usually a couple times per week), the html of the login page is displayed fine but the images are broken and display as missing images in the browser. Attempts to access the server listed in the walled garden do not succeed.

I have added a static dns entry for the ip in the walled garden to establish a local reverse dns record.

We usually end up turning off the hotspot and allowing open access for users for about 15 minutes or so and then re-activating the hotspot and the walled garden works again.

While this problem is occurring we also have RADIUS authentication failures. If I log into the radius server I can see the login attempt and a successful login is logged at the redius server but the log in the RB532 shows "login failed: RADIUS server is not responding" I have increased the timeout value for RADIUS but it has not fixed the problem.

We have had this problem with 2.9.5, 2.9.18, 2.9.22 and 2.9.29 (all of the releases we have tried)
