RB260GSP - POE AUTO with RB450G - a small little test

Mon Jul 28, 2014 12:00 am

Hello

I purchased RB260GSP to do with him Managed gigabit POE switch.
I got a little "zonk" (cat in the bag :) ).

1 There are two descriptions of one suggests 500 mA per port and the other 1 per port .. (500 bit but not enough .... I'll finish below)
2 connected RB260GSP POE -> RB450G. does not start automatically .. unless it forces the flow switch.
3 measurements which MT performs at the port to which you connected the RB450G is 223 mA, which is around 5 watts (at the top of the boot)

I conducted a simple experiment by connecting RB450G for a cascade of two RB260GSP .... it looked as

24V 2.5A ---> RB260GSP POE-> RB260GSP POE -> RB450G.

Imagine my surprise ... the message "short circuit" RB450G at the end .. lacked electricity! total current RB260 and RB450 second give something around 320 mA at the top!

The application is not suitable for cascade. The promised 500 mA is probably unattainable, at least not in the cascade. (Let alone 1A)
After all, the POE should automatically start automatically on a single RB450G ...

Maybe this is 500 mA at 12V for 24;) I already see not too much ... to forget about 1A

EDIT .. ...

Similarly, RB SXT G-5HPnD-SA r2 cascade in place RB450G running!

24V 2.5A ---> RB260GSP POE-> RB260GSP POE -> SXT G-5HPnD-SA r2 == sum 203m

if you would study in engineering university, you would have an electrical engineering subject :D even the aerospace engineers, who are studying for pilots like I do have that subject. So, google please for ohm's law :)

Yes, for fully functional PoE output, you need to power the RB260GSP with the Power Jack. We will make this more clear in the user guide.

Hi, i am using Ubiquiti equipment right now and i am not satisfied at all.
I would like to completely switch to MiktoTik, but:

The RB260GSP has a specified 500mA max. power per port. That would be 6W.
I would like to connect 4 SXT2GHnD to it, which are specified max 7W consumption.

The Ubiquity ToughSwitch has 11.5W/port. So should I better stick to that one, even if i don't like it?

Thanks,
Robert
