CRS-125-24G-1S keeps disconnecting

Mon Nov 03, 2014 11:31 pm

Hello all,

I have a new CRS125-24G-1S. Can any tell me why this unit using keeps disconnecting on me? I can be in the middle of a configuration operation or pasting some config from the the cli and it stops responding and disconnects. I've upgraded to 6.20 after seeing some posts regarding Firmware earlier than 6.13x. I was sure to reset the configuration after and to make sure the RouterBoard was upgraded. This did not solve the problem. I'm not sure what else to do with a all but factory unit.

Thank you,

td

Are you connecting via MAC address or via IP address?

What is the physical networking between your computer and the CRS?

Does is disconnect you if you are not changing things? What things are you changing? Do they affect the link between your computer and the CRS?

Access might be lost to the CPU and/or the port when configuring VLANs in CRS switch-chip and forgetting management access configuration. In such cases make sure access is allowed to "switch1-cpu" port from the certain VLAN. Also getting Serial Console cable and applying configuration through it can prevent disconnection during the configuration.

@lambert: I've connect via MAC and IP. I am directly connected. It does disconnect me when changing config; /interface ethernet set [ find default-name=ether1 ] comment="WAN" ... /ip address add..., /ip firewall mangle add..., /ip firewall address-list add..., /ip firewall filter add... (first two rules input and forward accept disable=no).. to name a few. I don't loose ethernet link, it simply disconnects. I can immediately re-connect/log back in.

@becs: No VLAN config, yet. Could you direct me to the documentation on the CRS Switching? I am not familiar with the "switch1-cpu" port and other details of the Mikrotik switching and would like to learn more. I've used the RouterBoard Routing extensively using Vlans and the occasional bridging of ports where some yahoo decided to use a single IP Block to serve multiple APs (on an inherited network) or I do so for a management IP Block to several site monitors or POE Controller devices.

Thanks again gentlemen...

I was surprised when I lost connection to the CRS I was configuring today while changing the comment on the port to which I was connected. Not a big deal, just don't change the interface to which you are MAC connected. I don't remember that happening with other models. I may not have paid enough attention.

tonyd,
Search for "CRS" in the MikroTik wiki. There is one article with all CRS switch setting descriptions and another with switching configuration examples.
If you pay attention to the images, you will see that "switch1-cpu" is like another port from switch-chip which goes to the CPU for routing and management access. Typically, "switch1-cpu" port should be configured like VLAN trunk port.
