HomeVPN

Fri Jul 18, 2014 3:02 pm

Am I the only one that's not seeing the new HomeVPN quickset option in 6.16? Or maybe it's there and I'm just blind to it.

I'm on a 750GL, just in case it's model specific.

This is only in HomeAP mode, your device doesn't have Wireless, so Quickset has a different set of features. It will be added to Ethernet only routers in next versions.

Ahhh, okay. Thanks for the clarification. Your newsletter didn't list any stipulations, so you may want to clarify that.

Edit: Okay, reading it again, I guess I was wrong. It does say HomeAP devices. I still think perhaps that needs to be made a little clearer though. Perhaps that's just me.

This will make a pptp connection only?
No option for ipsec? (I only have a wired router here to look at)

Also... what about in cloud making an option to detect and update despite NAT?

no, it will enable both. no config nesessary. you can enable HomeVPN and just make IPsec connection from any OS.
Cloud has option to send local or public IP, check "advanced" settings in the IP cloud menu from CLI

Why was that not in the changelog?

That is a major and awesome change and should really be mentioned in the changelog.

I wouldnt even know that was implemented if I didnt read the forums...

We are working on a new changelog system, which will mean positive changes in this area - more details for starters. I have updated the changelog now, as for now we are still in the "old era" of changelogs. From 6.18 we will have better changelogs already.

I don't see it either - I tend to manually configure my routerboard (2011UiAS-2hnd-in) and then quickset auto detects as 'WISP AP'. What are the criteria for quickset detecting this?

Ok, I'll bite -- do we have an idea of which version it will be added to? I'm really interested in this feature.

Thanks!

I am also still waiting for this feature. I run a leftover RB450G from our WISP at home with a external wireless AP, I would really like to use the HomeVPN function without having to purchase a new router.

Is this feature still planned for regular RB devices? I would like to run it on my RB1100.
