I'll describe my network in brief
I have a hotspot server with 2 hotspot interfaces for two lans 10.0.0.0/10.4.4.0
I have a pppoe server with 2 pppoe in interfaces for the same two lans with pools of 172.16.0.0 / 172.17.0.0 respectively

Using radius and user manager for pppoe server

I'm testing these days 6 clients with 6 pre-configured modems and the 172.17.0.0 segement users keep disconnecting and reconnecting together with absolutely no idea of how and why
hotspot users beside the other pppoe clients are fine , no disconnections
when trying to ping 172.17.0.1 which is the gateway of the modem there are too many request timed outs followed by disconnection
although when removing the modem and directly conneting with hotspot server ... no single problem ! ! !


on the other lan 172.16.0.0 , there are 2 clients which are ok , no disconnections , up times of 2 days

in the 172.17.0.0 segment
i'm using a ptp link for a remote lan (ubnt nanostation) , the other part of the lan are few switches with no ptp links
clients on both sides are disconneting '


Any idea or help please ?

You have the answer right there. The wireless link can go down often for very short amount of time. In normal situations, when these disconnections occur you wouldn't notice them. But the pppoe tunnel is very sensitive, so at every disconnection of the wireless the tunnel goes down. You would need a very reliable and stable wireless link to implement pppoe on that one.

Oh well, I guessed it wrong then
Anyway, the pppoe tunnel is pretty sensitive to not stable links, you might be experiencing some packet drops or port flapping.
Also, activate the pppoe info in the logs and check in the log what is causing the drop of the tunnel.

The log message is peer is not responding although adjacent hotspot user ping is 0%loss which indicates no flapping or disconnections

I also wanted to let you know that i use non-managed switches as 80% of the network i place managed switches in the important areas only

Try to disable encryption on the profile of the pppoe I have the same issue on badly environments and on VPN links with pptp

Check your AP's for interference.
If your AP's are very close to each other the interference and noise are causing all these pppoe disconnections. I had the same problem, once i solved the interference problem the disconnections were minimum.

Dear Friends,

I am using Mikrotik Router board RB-3011 for my clients. I have noticed that selected few clients are frequently disconnecting from my router board and reconnecting again after few seconds; while rest of the clients are getting seamless network. All my clients are on PPPoE network on 3rd party server, from where i am getting bandwidth. Kindly suggest possible troubleshooting.
