Can not Restore a Backup file

Fri Nov 28, 2014 8:27 am

Hi,

i have made a Backup File from a Mikrotik RB1100
with Terminal "/System Backup". (no Password given)

Now we MUST Restore the Backup and the Router OS always say "Bad Passwort (6)"
Password Field disabled - Bad Passwort (6)
Password Field Activated but Empty Password - Bad Passwort (6)

what does mean the (6) behind "Bad Passwort"?
If i want restore on an older Firmware as 6.13
the Router OS say its not a valid Backup file or anything.

Is there any default Password given?

I have used the "Restore Password" Scripts from some Sites
where i have Uploaded the Backup File and it Says "No Passwords Found".

Can anyone or Mikrotik decrypt us the File?
Its very Important for ur Company!

If you leave an empty password, but you use encryption, the password is the encryption password (you password for admin access at moment of creating the backup).

you must use at least the same version for recover it.

Hello

On "empty password" backup you need to use the password of the user who created the backup file. Hope this helps.

Just in case some body need this. The solution is to execute this command on the terminal: /system backup load name="name of your backup file" password=no.

I tried to restore a backup old enough. So the user’s password has changed in the meantime. I used the previous password of that user to restore the backup. It worked for me.

As a side solution.
I just had the same issue where a backup file refused to load.
the error indicated an error with the password like the OP.
The end result was the router was out of space and unable to restore the file.
This was on 6.44 RB1100

Freeing up some space and the router did not display the error (6) and file was able to be restored.
(the original symptoms were the router would not boot and would seem to power cycle.
I did a reset to start it but the config was then wiped.)
