Hi,

I'm new to Mikrotik, and support forums. Took me 2 days to find the words "Routerboard" and the number "6.22", in order to actually register for a support forum account. Still don't understand those 2 things fully, certainly not my RouterOS version lol.

Asked Mikrotik support for assistance but still no reply I finally sussed out the registration form, after much frustration.

The sad part is, my initial setup questions are very basic. I feel I'm over my head, of I can't even fill out the registration form!

I'm trying to initially setup a RB2011uiAS-RM, to replace a small 4-port modem/router, and then add bonded ADSL connections. Firstly I'm trying to physically install the router, and setup new IP addresses and DHCP server to suit my existing network (Ubiquiti based PtMP fixed wireless clients).

I've tried to follow the "Initial setup" guide in the wiki, but it doesn't tell me a whole lot, besides changing to a static ISP setup, which I don't need. It doesn't talk about setting up/changing basic things like and new network, or DHCP server.

I just want to change the default address and DHCP from 192.168.88.x etc, to a 10.1.10x network, as all my CPA are setup on currently. I'm not a networking person (electrician actually), but can get my hands dirty, this is a little embarrassing for something so simple! The only option I have, is to change my entire network to suit the default IP setup! Not keen, are the words coming to mind

I'm struggling to set this up, and currently about to spend $150/hr+ on a remote Mikrotik consultant just to do this. I'd prefer to spend that money actually getting the real work done.

Surely I can work this simple stuff out, even on a Mikrotik. From there I can learn all sorts of things. I'm using the Webfig for now, not wanting to complicate things even more! Happy to get my hands dirty though

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I've had this Mikrotik router since April, and local IT pros aren't confident with RouterOS, and not keen to learn anything new.

Cheers guys. I'm paying someone over at the Ubiquiti forums for basic router settings. $100/hour I could do without paying, but I guess this initial setup stuff isn't cheap for any professional equipment.

I apologise for asking such simple questions, in an advanced forum. Like I said, I have no idea with Mikrotik, but after the weekend playing around blindly (spending money lol), I think I'm starting to get the basics down.

Reading through other parts of the wiki helped (somewhat), but ultimately confused me more. Now I'm learning slowly, perhaps that reference material will make more sense.

If someone (anyone) could at least reply, and assist me with using Mikrotik forums, I would appreciate it. There's certainly a lot more things to learn, questions to ask, and there's no official support or contact from Mikrotik directly, and most user forums are more active, so I'm at a loss!

You need to adapt what is shown to what you want to do but it helped me to make sense of some of the content of the written wiki

I didnt really read cause it was a lot to read and didnt look like you were asking about a specific subject you need help on except
"initial set up". I dont know what your experience and knowledge is with networking.

You need to be reading through the WIKI.
Forum Designer/Admins should've really made the WIKI easy to find! We really need a link!

Again, I appreciate the responses, however in the week it took to post a message here, I already found someone I'm paying on the Ubiquiti forums.

Posted the same thing there, and after a few hours screwing around we finally have remote connections, and able to start configuring the network.

My biggest issue was initial setup (as posted). I simply need to phyiscally install the router (and new modem) on-site to replace existing router, and still run network. That took days, literally. Hence why I attempted to post here, without success.

I worked that out for myself, as the wiki didn't have much basic setup info there, besides the Initial Setup guide, which didn't address anything I needed. I'm still sifting through the wiki now, trying to learn how the change the default DHCP server, and how all these interfaces work

Anyway, like I said Ubiquiti forum was far quicker to get things done. Nothing against ANY member of this forum

I do have to say, Mikrotik's customer service leaves a lot to be desired. A week to sign up for the forum and actually get my posts approved was a painful experience. I asked how to answer the 2 security questions on forum signup, still waiting for clear answers. I guessed of RouterOS version, and guessed the word RouterBOARD.

Mikrotik told me to log into the router and find the OS version myself (thanks for that)..... Then, after I worked it out, told me it wasn't a security question anyway! Why screw me around on an answer, then days later tell me I didn't need the info anyway..

End of the day, the Level 5 license I bought is a mystery ,and the 30 day free tech support never existed. The wiki doesn't say a lot about the licence levels either. Do people really get this support? My supplier made it clear they didn't provide any sort of tech support, so I assumed Mikrotik would, either directly or via official consultants.

Anyway, I'm sick of trying to deal Mikrotik this past 2 weeks, their rudeness and general lack of interest in their customers. Ubiquiti were more than happy to address my Mikrotik support issues (in a way). At least I have the thing installed, and ready to spend money on.

Now I have to save these poor, waiting, agitated customers
