RB1100AHx2 with 8WAN or more connections

Sun Nov 30, 2014 7:17 am

Please pardon my noobish question here.

Right now I have my RB1100AHx2 configured with PPC load balancing over 4 WAN connections with a single LAN connection. The availability of high speed internet here is CRAP and the absolute best thing we can get is 5mb down .5up. The RB1100AHx2 has worked like a champ, however my network is growing and we need to add additional bandwidth. We have placed the order for 4 more 5MB DSL lines. So my question is:

Can i just add the scripts like i did for the first 4 for the next for with the same LAN output? From what I understand their is different switch boards and they have to be linked together, or something like that in order for them to function as a switch, however because I am not switching these connections I am routing them does this still apply?

Routing 40Mb/40Mb should not be a big deal for AHx2....

So do I just add the same code for ports 5-10 or do I have to bridge the two switch cards somehow

Each port is its own routed port by default. There is no need or desire to do anything at layer2 in this case. Just expand the configuration to take into account the extra DSL lines in mangle and have the appropriate routes and IP addresses assigned to the router.

would you mind private messaging me an example of your config? I've been trying to get this setup for my 3 isp's for months and have had no luck... the example configs on the wiki don't work for me and I don't understand how it all works.

Newborn-noobee here, so please forgive me for asking the obvious questions (if that is the case).

Thanks for your response Feklar, I had the same exact scenario (currently 4 WANS) and I am trying to add 4 more WANS so I did as you suggested (added the new lines into mangle, routes, and IP address table) but for some reason it does not work. Ether8 is R-running, but ether6 and ether7 are not. Since I am only working with 8 WANs and 1 LAN, I don't mind using a physical Cat-5e cable to bridge the two switch groups if it puts less strain on the CPUs. I am currently using ether13 as my LAN port (due to POE in functionality), so that leaves me with ether1-12 for my 8 WANS.
