I am looking for a new router/wifi for my SOHO. I'd like to find out about a few issues.
I started reading the documentation, but it's huge, so I may not find what I want easily.
1. with RouterOS, can you operate two (or more) Wifi SSIDs in parallel?
1.1 Can one be a hotspot and the others be treated as separate LANs (all connecting to the same WAN
but other wise separated)?
1.1.1 I may need limited cross-LAN access, wg for reaching the printer, but otherwise the LANs should
be seperated. Each SSID should map to a VLAN which also maps to certain HW ports.
It would be most welcome if the hotspot could be turned on/off by some hardware switch
(eg when we have visitors. My wife must be able to control that). I don't want the hotspot to e
left open when not needed).
Does the hotspot allow pre-definition of a number of accounts we can print and then hand out
to visitors individually (and maybe have each expire after a time of no-use, say a few weeks?)
2. (this may be more of a hardware question regarding the routerboard systems): Is there any 2.5 and 5Ghz support? How about improved wireless of the kind the newer integrated routers like
Netgear NightHawk etc tout? My current wireless coverage is spotty at best, butthen my current system is a Netgear 3200 with DD-WRT.
3 Are there any parental controls? Can I enable/disable
a) access for certain devices to certain sites
b) internet access for certain devices on/off based on a schedule?
how many devices can I define?
can i define different groups of devices for different schedules)?
4. I see VPN support but I am also interested in the router connecting as a client to my office's IPsec/L2TP VPN to allow all of
my local systems (one of my WLANs) to access the HQ devices.
any hints and pointers are appreciated
