Hotspot issue. Clients have to relogin when disconnected.

Wed Feb 04, 2015 5:38 pm

Hi all,

I'd like that the hotspots clients only must login once until their vouchers expire.

To make that work I have tested several configurations, but there are several clients that have to relogin if they have disconnected their devices for a time.

The options that I've checked are the followings without success:

- I have increased the keep alive timeout and idle timeout in the hotspot server.
- The clients can login using HTTP CHAP, HTTP PAP, MAC Cookie and Cookies

I'm using the Mikrotik Hotspot funcionality along with Usermanager. RouterOS is 6.25.

Regards,

Vicente

Hi all,

I have had a similar issue, but this time the hotspot has kicked off the client when he was connected to the network.

I don't know if it is an issue of specific devices or web browsers (with my iphone 6 haven't had any issue, but I have seen it in a bq aquaris 5 running Android 4.4.2), or it is a Mikrotik hotspot's bug, but I need some explanation to give to our customer.

Another subject is that I've observed that when the smartphone is not used, the smartphone's wifi interface is turned off automatically.

Please, I'd be grateful is someone could help me out.

Thanks,

Vicente

Hi,

I have detected something interesting. Although the "idle timeout" and "keep alive timeout" hotspot server's parameters are set to 12 hours, those timeouts are not taken into account.

To prove it, I have registered a device in the hotspot, and after that I have disconnected it from the wireless network. After a few minutes, the device is deleted from the "Active" tab, when I think, the device would have to appear a minimum of 12 hours.

What do you think about that?

I have similar issue. Has anyone found solution?

In my case its happening with User Manager's users. For the users created directly into mikrotik router using winbox, its fine. Cookies applied.

Not sure about user manager. But I am using external radius server for my Hotspot.

I use to face the same issue and I had did the following changes.

1. Set the ideal time to zero in default user profile- So any user connected to hotspot will not kicked out of network due to ideal time out.

2. Increase the keep alive time to 1 Day minimum - So router will not check the status of device for 1 day (useful when customers go to sleep at night. But their device will not disconnect due to inactivity.)

3. Increase the Cookie time to 1 Day minimum - If the cookie is enable then even the user loges off, they no need to use ID n pass for relogin or if the device is out of the network then simply opening the browser and accessing any website will automatically login the user.

4. Last but important is to guide the user properly.
