Creating Multiple Subnets

Wed Feb 11, 2015 3:57 am

Hello Everyone,

I've recently started using Mikrotik equipment, and I definitely have to say it's impressive. I have a customer where I'm deploying a CRS-125-24G-1S-2HnD-IN. My goal is to use Port 1 and Port 2 as Gateway ports (2 ISP Handoffs). With this, I would have the even ports as switched ports for the second subnet, whos gateway is port 2, and the odd ports as switched ports for the first subnet, with gateway port 1. I've poked around on winbox and have been really struggling with it. If there's anything I can do to help explain myself so I can get this resolved, please ask away and I'll answer to the best of my knowledge and ability. Thank you!

Hi it is possible to make Fail-over on mikrotik with this thread:
http://forum.mikrotik.com/viewtopic.php?t=90149
but load balancing is almost unpossible also link agregation (802.3ad)on switch is almost impossible to do on mikrotik!

If I can give you good advice return this device what you bought and buy some cheap tp-link with loadbalancing:
http://www.tp-link.us/products/?categoryid=205
Personally recomend TL-R470T+ it is cheap 100mbit solution and can do almost everything.
If you need 1gbit lan and wifi I can recommend this one:
TL-ER604W
here you can check it out if it meets yours reqiurments:
http://www.tp-link.us/resources/simulat ... /Index.htm

also you can test out this router :
ubiquiti edge router lite
it has wizard for load balancing... just few clicks and you are done.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bqPLD3bpxqc

and you probably need switch (-than you can split it to different subnets) if you ask for really good cheap managable switch I can recommend one from zyxel:
zyxel gs1920-24
if you need dumb switch I can recommend you this one:
TL-SG1024
but to be honest I strongly recommend to buy managable one(think about future)

Why I am recommending different solution ?
To be honest I have only on one site mikrotik and I have to say it can do everything for really good price but you have to spend unbeliviable amount of time on it !
So I am recomending you if you are on beginig and do not really understand mikrotik enviroment jus buy something different

Well I'm not trying to load balance, I'm trying to create two completely different networks. The two will exist independently of each other (logically).

Than it is really simple
open up winbox
press interfaces
add bridge and ethernet service for every single port
And name all odd and even interfaces so you can recognise them later.
also add ethernet service for both WAN and name them by different names,

next configure both wan
configuration you can find here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jjd6edzQ7ls

Next press
made 2 dhcp server first one 192.168.88.0/24 and second one 192.168.87.0/24(for odd and even port interface) if you do not know how to make dhcp server than watch this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_DlbkfWd1Uc

Next add one firewall rule
press ip firewall
press plus button
chain forward
src adress 192.168.87.0/24
in interface bridge1(or any other name depends on how you named your even port (yours fourth port should be even)

out interface ! (you have to press to the bank white square to make negation than you will see before it ! )wan1 or eth0 (depends on how you named it before)

on the top press action and choose drop and hit apply button.

Thank you. I will give this a run when I'm at the office tomorrow and let you know the results. My one question would be with the wireless, how can I associate an SSID with the appropriate subnet? or would I just bridge WLAN0 with the correct port?

Just associate ssid to the correct dhcp subnet for example if you have two wirless ssid than associate one to 192.168.87.0/24 and second ssid to 192.168.88.0/24
